And here's Kirby, another bearded dragon I was offered for free.
Kirby was given to me with SEVERE MBD (metabolic bone disease). This is usually caused by a disgusting deficiency of calcium and/or other vital nutrients. It causes reptile's bones to become extremely brittle, often breaking them several times, resulting in deformed limbs or bodies.
Both of Kirby's legs are bent inward, and as he's gotten older, he's developed a funky lower lip that doesn't completely close.
He is now completely healthy! And a bright little personality.
However, I am now extremely touchy about MBD. I've seen it on animals being sold on Craigslist and other random places. It gets me very mad. Since day one with Kirby, I've had to watch him struggle to move around. He can't eat from very high dishes well because he loses balance trying to get into them. He actually gets frustrated sometimes, flailing his useless front legs. I don't want any animal to have to suffer like he now has to for the rest of his life, just because someone was either too misinformed, or lazy to give him proper care.
Please remember reptiles are not toys. Even "starter" lizards like bearded dragons require a lot of care to stay happy and healthy! Don't let a "cute" animal and a pushy salesperson persuade you into getting a pet you are not prepared to take care of for the rest of it's life.
