So much to do, so little time
As I'm waiting to unwind
Waiting for life at 17
You only see me age 16
And all that I have ever been
Floated away against the wind
When all I know has gone so fast
And all I knew was wonderful
I've been around, I've stayed at home
So timid now, and yet so bold
I've climbed mountains (maybe hills)
But so much left to do
I've been a student, teacher, friend
Gave it all up on a whim
I sometimes want to be again
But they won't have me back
Dropped out of school, learned more at home
They're calling, I ignore the phone
Adventures through small Scottish towns
It always brings me back
I am a creature of two homes
Though I haven't seen one in 5 years
And though my heart yearns for the hills
The plains will have to do
The city lights stretch out before me
I stand alone here as the night falls
Look out over the escarpment
As Steel Town slowly goes to sleep
I had a dream last night. In it I was looking up old songs I had scrawled in my notebooks instead of doing the classwork during my time at Barton Secondary. This one even had chords noted down for guitar, and I was playing and singing it to my mom and someone who knew a lot about music in the middle of my aunt's living room. The thing is, I didn't actually write this song back when I was 16/17; my subconscious mind made it up out of whole cloth specifically for the dream. And it was a good song. When I woke up, I struggled to remember it, but I could only remember pieces. This is those pieces and some new stuff I wrote in the morning to tie the pieces together.
The "dropped out of school" bit is a new bit, my dream had me writing the song before I did that. The "away from one home for 5 years" is also new, as when I was 16/17 I had only been in Canada for 4 years. Other than that I'm not even sure any more which bits are old and which are new.
I don't remember where the chords go, and my conscious mind isn't a good enough musician to write new ones, but they were mostly As and Gs if anyone else wants to have a go. (Just credit me (my music pseudonym is Canis Rufus) if you do.)
The recording is fail because I don't know anything about how to record music best and I only have a dollar shop mic.
My tablet is on the verge of death right now so I probably won't be uploading any art for a while but I might upload some other songs I've written.
