Not sure how it's called in English but in French it's called "La Cuve du Diable"...which is an valley lost hours away from any road and/or help.

The pole in the middle indicate a warning that this way is much more difficult and that the next point to get help is 10.5Km (6.5 miles) away...which takes about 5 hours to cross because of the difficult terrain.

is what you can see when you look back once you've made about 1Km into the trail..it's a 45 degrees slope, it's extremely difficult to walk there because of the rocks with sharp edges...they tend to roll under your paws.
