True, although I don't think she's actually Russian. Her family might be, though! I haven't given much thought to her family yet but they must be both very proud of her, and very worried for her safety every time she leaves the planet. Her world isn't anywhere near as advanced in terms of space-faring activities as some other worlds in the galaxy, for the people of Demeter, space is still very much the final frontier.

Thanks! What little research I ended up doing on the real Laika made it sound like she was a good girl. It's kinda sad that she didn't survive that mission but her sacrifice definitely wasn't in vain, either. That was meant to just be a working title for this character, but I have a nasty habit of just making the working title the character's name or nickname, though--just ask the unfortunately named "Willis Wheeler", a wheelchair-bound wolf. I still feel kinda bad about letting that name actually *stick* but I sorta made it part of his character that he has a kinda dark and cynical sense of humor and he jokes about that fact sometimes.

Glad you like this one! I love drawing space but I think at some point I need to sit down and design an actual star map instead of just placing them randomly each time--some of those stars might be the ones that other characters' worlds orbit, and we'd never know!

ah I getcha, I have the same problem a lot of the time. I made a lot of characters when I was a dumb idiot teenager, and now im stuck with all these dumb names im sentimental about!

I know that feeling... I have all these weird designs, you've probably noticed that some of my characters basically look like dollar-store Digimon with big teeth and random stripes and stuff... but it feels wrong to change the designs at this point, yet at the same time for years I never really did anything with the fact that they were inspired by those magic fighting monster franchises so there's not much art of Chance Whitefang breathing fire. I do need to really start embracing that weirdness again.

Given that I have quite a few different planets I reference and space travel is a thing in my universe, eventually I probably do need to sit down and design some sort of galaxy map. That sounds like a pain in the ass, though, and I'm not sure how to go about that. To be honest I'd probably just find some map of the Milky Way and just sorta add my own stars and planets where I want them to be in relation to each other.

the worst part of it is the desire to do things accurately, therefore forcing yourself into studying shit. just to get drawings right..bleh. i refuse to do any book learning lol
