He had a vivid dream where he came across a peculiar camera where photos taken of humans would come out as Pokemon. Out of curiosity, he took his own photo.

When the blinding flash of the camera faded, he awoke in his bed with a souvenir of his dreams in hand and something more.

Okay the "photo" thing explains the transformation...but what's with the slashed-up pajamas? Did Freddy Krueger pay him a visit?

I always thought of it as them scratching at themselves during the dream at parts that were changing which results in some parts of clothing being ripped from the claws/nails.
