Hahah. Yes, I know.
Actually, I do like it when people portray angels this way, and I have faved some really disturbing art of angels.
For what it's worth, this creature is supposed to be awe inspiring, which is why I designed them (they are neither male, nor female) to be so large, and with crystal globes for eyes, and flaring lights, where the pupils should be (I thought this was original, and then, I remembered Dream from Neil Gaiman's Sandman. Damn). They are also surrounded by a very bright light--much brighter than Aether's, and it is almost blinding.
So, it would not be particularly comforting to be in this creature's presence, and that was my intention.
That being said, there's a reason I use the word, angelic, and not seraphic, or cherubic, because I really am using it in a colloquial sense. This does not take place on Earth as we know it, but a planet similar to Earth, where the Judeo-Christian religions never existed. And these creatures are angelic, because they are supposed to be stewards of all Earth's creatures (although, it does not work out, like they'd hoped).
"Angelic" evokes a being that exists to minister to humans, and that's what these creatures are supposed to be.
