A closer look at the skeleton separated from the skin. You can see the mounting hardware for each of the actuators, as well as some of the electronics involved. Each actuator has monitoring circuitry — the ones that get stuffed into the skin are seen in the anti-static bags. A 5V USB battery powers the controller circuit and lights, and a 7.4V lipo powers all the moving parts. The 72-light array are charlieplexed to produce the 12 wires coming out of the skin that are put into screw terminals on the main control board seen as the bottommost component on the backplane.
