This enemy may be too powerful, and communication is clearly impossible. That hand language could easily become a form of attack, so subterfuge should be deployed.
First, lower yourself into a combat stance with knees bent and feet planted wide for stability. Then spread your arms and widen your body to appear larger. She appears to be a half-animal, so her instincts may respond your your appearance of bigness and she may become scared. Be sure to deploy a sonic attack to enhance this effect, a loud barking yell, screech or growl may all be effective sonic disruption.
Us that moment to strike or evade and retreat. Rethinking tactics may be the only way to defeat this creature at such a low level.

I never learned Spanish in school either, though, that's a UK thing, being close to the euro-border, knowing spanish isn't all that useful (unless you want to talk to someone from spain), French and German are far more useful, so when I was in school, those were the two options. I went for German...
My reasoning for German was kinda crap though. We had sky, Satalite TV. Half the channels were in German. I wanted to be able to watch german cartoons and know what they were saying.
Of course, German has come in more useful than french. I have german friends online, I don't know anyone from france.

I remember taking Spanish classes in High School; it was a mandatory LOTE class. I figured my past experiences with Sesame Street as a kid and playing around with a Spanish/English dictionary would have given me an edge in class. Boy was I wrong!
Even then, I initially was more interested in taking German, but the teacher who taught it supposedly retired the year before I started High School. *sigh* Go figure.
