Officer Jacinto Cruz checking out one of the abandoned buildings on the east side.
These old buildings always give him the creeps. When he was a teenager, he'd sometimes sneak into them to explore or engage in petty vandalism. Even all those years ago, when he was full of teenage bravery and impulsiveness, the abandoned industrial buildings would give him a creepy feeling. Then, just like now, he runs through the possibilities of what he might discover as he responds to a call about suspicious activity and hears noises echoing through the building. Just some stray animal? Maybe teenagers, exploring or breaking windows or spraying graffiti or smoking pot? Criminals stashing loot, dealing drugs, or hiding a body? Or could it be something... paranormal?
Not taking any chances, and drawing closer to the sounds, Officer Cruz reaches for his sidearm...

I can imagine this sort of call would be pretty scary. Big abandoned building to check out, lots of places for bad guys to hide, lots of potential hazards from the structure itself being old and in disrepair, and no real idea what he's looking for--just a "suspicious activity" call. Any sound could potentially be a criminal trying to take him out--or it could just be a small animal scampering around or his own footsteps making something rattle.
Let's just hope it's not a drug dealer! The way I tend to come up with stories, though, it's probably something equally shocking but far less dangerous--like his own idiot teenage son and his idiot teenage friends being idiot teenagers. Or maybe it is something a bit more paranormal, like a ghost, monster, or alien--he lives in a universe where all three exist canonically.

In Officer Cruz's case, his son is this idiot, Mr. "Flowers are Plant Wangs" himself, Ferran.
While I didn't design the two to be related, a while back I thought it made sense, since they'd have conflicting personalities that would play off each other well, and Jacinto being busy with work a lot would give Ferran an excuse to hang out with his cousin a lot--even when you're a rebellious teenage punk, an empty apartment gets lonely! Also, they do look at least somewhat similar.
This is actually how I assemble a lot of my families, as I develop new character designs further, I just sorta decide to put them together into families based on visual similarities and interesting character chemistry and dynamics, it's actually rather uncommon for me to design a character with the intent of them being related to another.

There are 2 abandoned buildings i wanna visit. The abandoned Los Angeles County General hospital's Rehabilitation Ward and the abandoned Sears Outlet in Boyle Heights (also a district in Los Angeles). (Yes I live in Southern California. I live in a beach city in Orange County.
