Before going on the road with Ethan, Diana, and Rhodes, Lydia began her training in an oracle temple. Under the watchful eyes of her mentor Eris, she learned the arts of healing through herbs and other natural medicines. As part of her education she was required to grow and maintain a garden of various plants and make medicines out of them for use in treating the wounds of her follow Oracles and any visitors to the temple.
Oracles were required to know how to treat wounds through plants as more complex medical care was not always available, and their ministrations could mean the difference between a patient's survival or their death.
Modern medical care in that part of the world recognized the value of herbal medicine, and this was another reason the Oracles were generally trusted and respected by most of the general population.

Modern medicine is a wonderful thing, but when you live in a world where professional medical care might be a long way away, it is certainly handy to have someone along who can whip up a poultice or who knows the properties of certain plants and how to prepare them properly. Or even how to recognize them for that matter. Lydia's friends are certainly lucky to have her along, and this is a stunning picture of her, too. Luthien really knocked this one out of the park!
I kinda want a unicorn pot like that, too.

At the time, this was modern medicine, at least for their side of the world. :) Still, if you don't have healing magic handy, it's always good to have the knowledge of what's around you to fill in the gaps. :) While Diana's part of the world does possess some magical healing for the most part it's pretty old school. I have kind of played it with her stories that magic over there is tied to objects (ie, a magic staff) rather than something you carry around with you. That and it's relative rarity makes it special, so for the average person they usually have two choices, either the local doctor, or an Oracle temple, as they will always offer well meaning advice, medical care, and welcome strangers provided you come in peace.
I have been trying to think lately of ideas for moments that the four of them would encounter to increase the content featuring some of the characters that don't get a lot of love while I try to figure out my issues and get back to work, it's been slow, but the images have come out quite nicely.
