Tanzanite is a very high-ranking gem, comparable to an Emerald or even one of the Garnet-type gems in rank. Despite her high status (even being gifted a Pearl), she's something of a philanthropist for gems of all types, something that's caused other gems to think of her as strange, maybe even dangerous and something she's even had to hide or cover up from time to time (she's given asylum to and aided off-colour and defective gems in the past).
