Sparkledawgs Ain't Got Nothin' On Midi
Fucking sparkle woozledawg! For those of you who don't know,
is a ferret/shiba inu mix...so she's like a sparklebastard, which is infinitely cooler than a sparkledog.
My first actual try at a digital piece that's drawn, inked, colored, and shaded all on the computer. Be gentle, it's my first time *winks*.

the lines are really nice for it being the first time you've done them digitally. :) I'd just suggest not using dodge/burn for shading, and just using the brush to do shadows. Also maybe try using a hard brush with low opacity or flow settings instead of a soft brush. This guy on Youtube does some great Ps tutorials. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi_3HymnpXE
Well, I didn't use dodge and burn. My mistake is that I tried to do it all in SAI, and the shading techniques in that program work a little different from the ones I used in Photoshop. So, next time, I'm going to do the lines and base color in SAI, import the file into Photoshop, and shade with lowering opacity like I usually did back in my college days. Thanks for the video link and the thoughtful commentary!
Ah, SAI. You can learn how to fenangle it a bit like Ps if you dig for some tutorials. I think you use the just plain hard brush there? It's been a while since my trial expired and I've played with it. It is rather nice for doing line work in though. MUCH better than Ps CS3. But also Ps CS4 does much better 'ink drawing' than it's predecessor now. We have it in our computer lab and it's sexy. But SAI is infinitely cheaper than Ps will ever be. x_x
Yeah, I used to do all my inking in Illustrator, but that just makes me want to soak my brains in acid. http://shadowraine.deviantart.com/a.....s-Boy-79841172 there's an example. I liked the smoothness of the lines and the graphic feel, but I hated that I would waste six hours of my life with just lines and fucking around with the tools lol. SAI definitely helps, and I plan on learning more.
It's good to know that they made inking more user friendly. I guess I'll stick with CS3 though. Can't drop that much money on another program. And SAI will work for the inking. One day, one day, I'll get good like you, girl lol!

Ah, Ps has a pen tool as well, but it's not really as good. But I agree about Illustrator. It sucks all the fun out of drawing. x_x And the only secret to my inking is drawing a line, not liking it, back stepping, doing it again, not liking it, back stepping....Until I finally make the stroke I like and that's not wobbly. I HATE inking in Ps x_x So time consuming.
Very nice! It actually took me a while to get used to digital color lol. One tiny thing tho, and correct me if im wrong, but it seems you did the lineart on a layer with a white background? Try doing it in a transparent layer and then you wont have to separate the lines from the white! Unless it was on purpose? lol
Also, watch out with blurry white highlights, makes everything look plastic and fake. Again, unless it was on purpose... lol Some people like it :P
Other than that, youre gold! :D

Well, I was cheap and just merged all the layers before checking to make sure that I didn't color outside the lines. I know, I know, newbie mistake. This was really just a try at SAI, so next time, I'll know to import the file into Photoshop to do my shading so it doesn't have the plastic feel. There I can work with layering different opacities better.
Thanks for the thoughtful commentary. I love your digital work!

lol, thats happened before over here... >< That and ive also had the case where I resize the image and instead of save as, i press save and overwrites the whole thing in 100 dpi D:
In anycase, you did awesome for your first try, look at mine D: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/210226/
Thats actually like... 5 years old lol I was a late bloomer when it came to art lol

Daw that means a lot to me. <3
Yeah, I'm trying to be more active here on FA too, so I don't lose touch with all you people who rock my pajamas. But things are just a little busy right now with college and what not.
I also recently found out that I'm depressed, apparently, so that's making things tough as well. But I promise I'm still out here. x3 Still love seeing your work.

Yeah, college can be a major life parasite...I guess that's why I only take it in small doses. I hope things get to a point of normalcy for you. I know that having very little time to oneself and your own hobbies can dampen spirits further.
I'm sorry about the depression, hun. I know that sucks, and I hope you can find the help you need for it. You seem pretty tough, so I'm sure you'll pull through. If you need someone to listen, feel free to note me or IM me. Been there, done that, and all that rot.
*blushes* I'm glad you like my stuff. You're seriously one of my favorite artists!`

a question for you (serious as it might be)
i know this might sound strange, but someone called my fursona Tanek a sparkle dog. however, he is all but far from being such a thing. the original conflict originated on DA (go figure right?) on this image http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2836214/ that i commissioned Alector Fencer and Pearl Eden to do.
the person in question ranted and raved that he was a she (in reference to Tanek) and then went on to say that it was a first for sparkle dogs that they have seen Alector and Pearl to have done.
in your personal and utmost honest thought: do you consider him as a sparkle dog?
the reason why i dont consider him as such is despite him being a 3-tailed feral/anthro wolf is that the blue on his fur would be (if he was real and living) more akin to an Australian Cattle Dog's (Bluehealer's) fur color rather than just a serious blue, more like a deeper, darker, muddled blue that those dogs have.
i know i am ranting at this point but i need someone else's idea who seems to have a better insight on sparkle dogs, this post kinda made me think you were a better candidate to ask :)
sorry for the long post >.<;
