just doodling some stuff around what games I've been fiddling with lately.
-Dead Space 2: Finished a Plasma Cutter Only run of game 1, so I'm doing the same here. One day I'll have big PP and try playing the hardest difficulty so I can get the foam finger gun where Isaac says "pew pew" every time he fires it.
-Evil Within 2: Eh. I liked the first one better. Has some cool moments, but not nearly as many or as memorable as the first game. Also felt like the semi-open world and crafting were fisted in there just because every other game had it too.
-Thief Simulator: "MOTHERFUCKER LEAVE YOUR HOUSE ALREADY I WANT TO STEAL YOUR TV." Fun game for a while, but it does get a little old eventually. I'd love to see some of the ideas and mechanics expanded on and give you more world to play around in.
-Saints Row Series: Replayed 3 and 4, going back to 2 (arguably the best one) and *one day* I'll try playing the very first game if the opportunity arises.

Always love your stuff!
Saints Row tangent!
So personal opinion, but I feel like you can get away without *playing* SR1, but I'd recommend maybe watching a compilation of cutscenes perhaps. But beyond that, the first Saints Row doesn't hold up.
Let's look at what Saint's Row *is*. In fall 2005, Xbox 360 was released. At the time, the most recent Grand Theft Auto game was San Andreas from 2004, which was released on Xbox and PS2. With the new console in 2005, there was a demand for a GTA or similar game on the new console. In steps a new, Xbox 360 exclusive, Saint's Row. It was a new generation GTA-esque game.
In that regard, Saint's Row did not need to differentiate itself from GTA, and so it mostly kept to the same formula. The important things to note in Saint's Row 1:
- Your character was male. You could pick between various racial profiles and customize your male, but your character was male.
- Your character is a silent protagonist. The entire game, story happens around your character, much like GTA. Plus, the game overall was more "serious". The story is about local gang wars, and action sequences had the usual vehicles and weapons, but the scope of the narrative never quite broke "ridiculous" like 2 does right out the gate.
Case in point: Your character in SR1 is the same as SR2 (and subsequent games). Even though you can make your character in SR2 a lot more diverse, including a female, this is all hand-waved with "did you get a haircut" at the beginning of SR2. This is great, and sets the tone for the whole series. But mostly by doing this as a way to distance itself from SR1 and the serious tone it was initially trying to abide by.
All in all, I say you could get a quick 'n dirty version by watching cutscenes, reading a summary... and seeing if you can find the talk radio channel. That's one thing I remember being amazing, SR1 had probably my favorite talk radio in any GTA-esque game, to this day. It was a great 'conservative talk' radio. It's probably on youtube or something. But other than that, I'd agree that SR2 essentially established the tone of the series and the direction it would take from there.
