Public Fursuiting draws one of two reactions:
1) The I've-gotta'-hug-you-and-get-a-picture-why-are-you-a-giant-dog?
or
2) I don't see you. I refuse to notice a huge ambling dog.
This couple diligently followed me to the end of the pier. And back. And never once said a word.
So I asked them if they had seen animal control around. You know, just to break the ice.
The man said "No thanks" and the women continued to pretend to adjust her coat.
I was sad. Are some people so jaded that they can't engage in a little harmless fanatsy?
The lesson I took away from this experience:
Keep an open mind. Enjoy the silly side of life. Use your imagination.
Be creative. Be spontaneous and engaged.
You might just make someone very happy...

People never hesitate to talk to me when I'm all dressed up and about, granted I wear dresses and other stuff not fursuits....though it gets irritating when people blatantly stare, trying to figure out if I'm a boy or a girl...people are rude. Plain and simple. *hugs* I think you look awesome XD
Amen to that, dude... You can't live out life being jaded all the time, I don't care how old you are.
But, well, I wouldn't always chalk it up to their personalities. One thing I learned from psychology class is that reactions aren't always behavioral, it may be situational. I mean... maybe something bad happened to them earlier that day, or... something... but still, I can't imagine how it feels to go fursuiting and not get a positive reaction from someone. Though I do my best to empathize. -hugs-

I admit I never had the ability to let myself be in a fantasy world. For all the dumb things I do for yoks I can't stop being in the real world. It's ironic because 90% of the stupid stuff I do the "dignified" wouldn't ever be caught doing. But acting in public is something I've seen 'em do just to let go and be silly, which I can't sseem to do.

I agree, you tend to run into folks on opposite sides of the spectrum, those who like and those who do not like. I tend to spend more time with those who like than those who don't like. I also agree that I feel sorry for those who don't like and stuck in their ways.

*waggwaggwaggwagg* Some people are just dead inside. I get the same sort of reactions when I take my puppet places. Some people think it is the best thing ever and other try their best to ignore it and me LOL. I am looking forward to when I get my FS so I can menace the public in a much hardware to ignore way haha. If I saw you out and about I'd give you beer and hugs! *hugs*

You make a very good point! It's best to enjoy your life while you can and be spontaneous. I think it's awesome you went out suiting in public on your own! The good reactions make up for the bad ones I think. I bet you made some people's day! Chiv has always mentioned to me wanting to fursuit in a hospital for sick kids or something, and I think that is such a great idea. Suiting can definitely lift people's spirits! Best to just ignore those can't take a little fun in their lives!

That would be so cool if you did dress up in suit and bring her! Is she ok with the suit, or does she get nervous?? One of my dogs loves my suit but the other not so much... and my cats get terrified lol.

hehe, being a fursuiter I can understand this. However if I were a not suiting and in a position like that I am generally too shy to engage someone like that or do anything. I tend to avoid people in costume unless I'm at a furry con or event :p Outside of that I don't seem to have the proper personality that matches those of which makes fursuiting fun. lol.
haha, well, not to the extent that they kept ignoring you if you tried to interact with them :C Usually I'll get at least a hello :P Eeek a simple "no, I haven't seen animal control" woulda livened up something, but "no thanks" just kinda completely ignored the whole situation and he didn't want a part of it lol. Darn six foot tall roaming dogs. They always causing trouble! I won't have any part in their shenanigans!
Going through all the comments, yes is possible that they were having a bad day and all that, but i must say, at least a smile? Dear God, most fursuits are "adorable" (unless you're a vampire, wolf, werewolf, dragon kind of thing). How can "anyone" not be given an "awww" moment? Fair enough if your nature prohibits you from doing more than a smile and maybe a wave, but no reaction is just, just so sad, you know?
As I termed my father, some people become old farts before they ever get to the age of actually being an old fart. That sadly, was my dad.
I, on the other "paw", am a 57...58 in a few days, "middle aged white lion with a little cubbie happily living inside my heart.
It's happened to me, don't take it "fursonally", just continue to be yer lovable self and they just had a "missed opportunity".

That sucks, man. I figured people, well, I never thought much about other people's reactions, 'cause I've suffered enough just saying that I'm being Christ-like to furs (even Christians are fallible, sometimes even more-so). So, yeah, that's kinda' sad that they didn't give you a second thought. *side hugs*
Some people just don't understand why others enjoy certain things. I find it fun. :)
