Oof, new story time. This is honestly one of my favorite chapters I have written so far. It is incredibly long, about twice the length as my longest story, so maybe it's better to read this story in chunks. That way you don't get tired of the floof and the goof!
This chapter was supposed to end after the movie, but I got WAY too into it. So it went back to Fen's apartment. Nothing bad happens! Get your mind out of the gutter! Husk was just visiting!
All types of criticism are appreciated! Good, bad, (telling me I look nice today). All of it is appreciated! If you tell me what you like or don't like, I can change up my writing style a little!
Anyway, hope all y'all guys and gals and furs and others enjoy the story!
Café Husky
Chapter 7
On the way to the theater, your mind wandered back to your morning with Husk. Sure, you guys were meeting up to try and calm down Husk, but you begin to think he just wanted to hang out with you again. You may have helped him calm down a little, but you still couldn’t help but feel that he had some other ulterior motive behind the breakfast. That doesn’t mean that you didn’t have an amazing time at breakfast though. It was absolutely amazing, and you had such an amazing time hanging out with Husk. He was such an amazing person, and he doesn’t deserve to have all this piled on him at once. If only he would tell you what caused his parents to want to kick him out…
Your eyes refocus on the road, as you continue to drive your way to the Dragon Theater.
You arrive at the Dragon Theater after your thoughts got themselves under control, and you went looking for a parking spot. Finding a spot without anyone near you, you park your car. Getting out of your car, Husk appears around the corner, driving up in his beat-up vehicle. You have no idea how you could have beaten him here, because you both went the same exact direction, and he left before you did.
You wave your arms to get his attention, and upon seeing you, he parks his car next to yours, before he gets out, and walks up to you.
You wave at him again, before speaking up, “Hey stranger! Ready to go see what’s playing?”
“You know it! I can’t wait to see what they have playing this morning!” You both walk towards the front of the theater, looking at the posters for the different movies as you walk past the front of the theater. There was a lot of older movies on display, but as you approached the front door, you finally saw what you wanted to see.
You run off without Husk to the poster that was hanging, and quickly point it out to him, “How about this one? I’ve seen a few trailers, and it looks like it going to be really good!” The poster you were pointing at was for the movie Maws. You remember this movie from your childhood, it is about an anthro shark swimming around a beach, swallowing people whole. It looks like they were replaying one of the classics in this theater, “So? What do you think? Do you want to see it?”
Husk finally catches up with you, and sees the movie poster you were pointing out, and you can see his eyes light up, “Ooohh, I have never seen that movie! That sounds like a wonderful idea! Everybody always says it is an amazing movie.” Having decided on a movie, you both head inside the doors, with the both of you giddy over your choice in a movie.
Husk walks ahead of you towards the ticket counter, and you can hear the lion behind the counter greeting him, “Hey Floof! How are you today? Here to see another movie?”
A lot goes through your mind at the same time, but the first thing your body does is laugh at the unflattering name… even if it was true. Husk turns around to glare at you, before addressing the lion, “Hey Mele. Yeah, actually. Can I have two tickets for the next showing of Maws?”
Mele comes up with two tickets for Maws, before handing them to Husk, “Here you go! The next showing isn’t for another half an hour, if you don’t mind waiting.” Husk looks back to you, and you just shrug your shoulders. It’s not like you have anywhere else to be.
“I guess we’ll wait. Thanks, Mele. See you tomorrow?” Husk waves his paw, and Mele returns the gesture, before he takes you to a bench to sit down, which is great, because you don’t think you could have stood and asked him questions at the same exact time.
“So… do you just come to the movies often enough to know the staff by name, or is there something I don’t know?” Husk sees the look of confusion on your face, and he can’t help but laugh at your misfortune, making you put on the saddest face you could… before he laughs at you again.
“Oh man, you really make the cutest faces!” This sudden comment makes you blush, but he must have thought he said it to himself, because he continues on, undisturbed, “Oh, I guess I never told you. I actually work here. My parents wouldn’t let me continue living in their house without a job after college, so I applied here, and they accepted me. It’s pretty cool. I get free movies and discounted concessions. I don’t really watch the movies that much though. It’s a nice perk to have either way.”
Your mind processes this information for a moment, before you realize, that those are probably some of the coolest job perks ever, “Really? No way! If I had those perks, I would never leave the theater! I would watch every movie they had to offer!” You continue ranting about his perks, and all of the things you would do with those benefits. You continue on like this for a while, coming up with a lot of different scenarios, and causing other furs to stare at you
“He is so cute.” You abruptly stop talking, and look at Husk, he looks surprised for a moment, and you see him blush. You were too busy freaking out to hear what he said, but you knew that he was referring to you.
“I’m sorry, did you say something? I’m sorry. I was rambling and didn’t hear what you said.” Husk blush reddens even further, before he waves his paws dismissively, clearly embarrassed by something.
“O… Oh, it was nothing… I was just thinking aloud is all…” Looking at him proves nothing, because he refuses to look at you, looking at the various posters littering the walls.
You just shrug, even though he can’t see you, “Well, okay. If you say so. So next question. Why Floof? Like, I know you are super floofy,” you run your paw through his fur, which he swats at right away, glaring at you. At least you got him to look at you again, “but what’s up with that? Do you not like your actual name?”
Husk stares at you for a minute, before sighing, “…Yeah, that’s right on the nose actually. I have a pretty cool name, but my parents told me the meaning of the name one day, and I have resented the name ever since.” You can see sadness in his eyes again, and you put your paw on his shoulder, trying to soothe his pain.
You speak in a soft tone, doing your best to lift his spirits, “Hey, Husk, it’s okay. I’m sure your name is fine. And, if it makes you feel any better, I can tell you my name. If we tell each other our names, then maybe that would make you feel better. And if not, then at least we know each other’s names, right?” You shoot up your eyebrows, trying to convince Husk to submit. He still looks sad, but less so than before.
After a minute, he sighs in defeat, “Okay… if you don’t mind telling me. What is your name? I can’t say that I haven’t wondered about it.”
His look of sadness has been replaced by excitement, clearly wanting to know your actual name, and you can’t help but feel shy, blushing as he stares at you, “Well… my name is… Apollo.” He looks confused for a moment, clearly trying to remember where he heard the name before.
His eyes light up, obviously having remembered where he heard the name from, “Oh! Like that Roman god, right? I read about him somewhere before. I can’t say I remember much about him…”
“Yep! The same one. My parents told me they were going on vacation with my sister when my mom was pregnant, and they visited Rome, where they fell in love with the name. And here we are!” You thrust your paws into the air, trying to heighten the effect, and it seems to work, because Husk starts rambling on.
“That’s a really cool name! It must be cool being named after a god! I mean if I was-”
“Now wait a minute.” You waggle your finger at him, scolding him for his misdeeds, “You aren’t getting out of telling me your name! I saw you trying to weasel your way out of this, but I want to know your name too! You told me you would tell me your name, so pay up!” You see him trying to look away from you again, but you quickly intercept his chin and turn his head towards you, before continuing, softening your tone, “Hey, it’s okay. You can tell me. No matter what you say, I’m here for you, and nothing will change that.” Releasing his now blushing face, you look at him, and give him a reassuring nod, trying to convince him that everything is okay. You are here for him.
He looks down this time, staring at his feet, before he gathers his nerves enough to tell you, “Okay, okay. I’ll tell you. My actual name is…” He wrings his paws together in his lap, but you wrap his paws up in yours, and once he looks at you, you nod your head, letting him know that it will be fine. He lets out a defeated sigh, before he continues, “Ezhno.” He says it quietly, but you still heard him enough to make out the name.
“Did you say, ‘Ez… no’?” He nods his head, and having confirmed it, repeat it in your head a few times. Ezhno huh? That’s not a bad name at all, “I don’t think it’s that bad a name. It actually sounds really neat. But you said the meaning is what made you hate it right? If it’s not too soon, what does it mean?” You squeeze his paws tightly, reassuring him again that you are here for him.
Husk shakes his head, “I’m sorry… I don’t think I’m quite ready for it yet, especially not in public…” You nod your head in understanding, patting his paws.
“Hey, that’s totally fine. If you’re not ready, you’re not ready. I totally understand. But you still owe me an explanation one of these days!” You point your finger at him, and he just lets out a nervous chuckle. You suddenly remember something, and looking at the time on your phone, you jump up quickly, startling Husk, “Oh crap! Husk! The movie! It starts in five minutes!”
That gets Husk to jump up, “Oh, you’re right! I completely forgot! C’mon, let’s go! We have to be fast, so we don’t miss anything!” He grabs your paw, and drags you to the concession counter, where you both patiently wait for the Doberman in front of you to get his food. When he leaves, Husk rushes up to the counter, and quickly orders a large popcorn and two drinks, and with his employee discount taken into effect, pays for the overpriced snacks.
He urgently grabs your paw again, and drags you to the appropriate theater. If your mind wasn’t reeling from the fact that he was technically holding your paw, you would have realized he asked you a question, and it takes him waving his paw in your face to snap you back to reality, “Did you hear me?” You shake your head, to both answer his question, and to clear your thoughts, and he asks the question again, “Where do you wanna sit?”
You think for a moment, still trying to clear your mind, mostly because he still had a grip on your paw, “U… um, how about somewhere between the middle and back? It doesn’t look like many people are here, so we should be able to find something.” He nods his head, and leads you along, still holding onto your paw, into one of the rows of seats. He stops somewhere in the middle of the row, before he realizes he is still holding your paw, before he abruptly releases your paw, and blushing a deep shade of red.
“So… um… is right here fine?” You nod your head, fine with his decision, before you both sit down. Husk graciously carried the popcorn for the two of you, while you both carried your own drinks. He places the popcorn between the two of you, so you both had easy access to the buttery, salty treat. The screen only had time to show you the silence your phone ad, which you both did, because you love your country, before the lights dimmed so the movie could start.
You excitedly pat his arm, pointing at the screen, “Look, its starting! I forgot how excited I was until now!” You say this while jumping up and down in your seat. And he just smiles at you, clearly happy to see you enjoying yourself before the movie even starts.
“I can see that. That’s usually what the dimming lights mean.” You stare him angrily, and slap him lightly on the arm, and while he feigns pain, you turn your attention to the screen.
The movie opens with a scene on the beach, where you see some various furs enjoying their time on the beach, laughing and playing, and generally juts having a good time. That all turns on its head though when a tiger woman swims too far from shore. She looks to see a fin approaching her, and she just shrugs her shoulders. ‘There were plenty of sharks on the beach that day,’ you could see her think, ‘it’s probably just some prank.’ It quickly proves itself not to be a prank though, as she is pulled underwater. Clearly getting swallowed whole by the main villain of the movie.
Husk is the one who reacts this time, patting you on your arm, and whispering excitedly, “Did you see that!? That was shot so well! And I’m sure no one saw anything! She was too far away for anyone to see anything!” You laugh at how giddy he was. You forgot he said he has never seen this movie, so it must feel amazing watching such a great classic for the first time.
You whisper excitedly back at him, “The movie only gets better from here too! It really glorifies the vore, so every scene feels like it might happen in real life!” Husk just nods his head, and turns his attention back to the screen.
The movie continues on. With Husk freaking out at scenes whenever the shark comes up and swallows another person, clearly enthralled by the movie. It was halfway through the movie, when the main characters find the remains of a regurgitated anthro tiger shark, that they think everything is over. One of the main characters says that this couldn’t be the serial swallower, because of the fact that the shark was regurgitated. Nobody believes him though, and they all go back to their daily lives. Forgetting about the shark.
Husk has been quiet for a while now, before he abruptly speaks up again, quietly, of course, “Of my gosh. That can’t be the serial swallower! Do these guys have no common sense? That tiger shark clearly did nothing wrong!”
You laugh at his sudden anger towards the movie, “That’s the whole point. The island gets amazing amounts of profits during this time of year. With it being the fourth of July and everything. So, closing the island would be like waving goodbye to a huge portion of their money! They’re going to ignore the shark and hope it doesn’t come back. But come back she does.” After saying that, you wiggle your fingers, trying to scare him, but all he does is laugh at you, and slaps your paws away, clearly amused. You place your arm on your armrest, and Husk does the same, placing his paw on yours. You blush from the sudden contact, but make no attempt to move your paw, enjoying the warmth of his paw on top of yours.
The movie continues on for a little while longer, with Husk’s paw still sitting atop yours. When a loud noise suddenly causes you to jump in your seat, “KA-BOOM!”
You forgot about this scene.
In the movie, a giant thunderstorm swept across the bay, producing all types of loud noises. Husk notices, and looks over at you, and finally notices his paw on top of yours, pulling back his paw quickly, before looking to you again, “Hey, Fen, you okay bud? You jumped suddenly, is everything fine?” You simply nod your head, before another sound booms through the theater, “KRA-KOW!”
This causes you to jump again, sinking back in your seat. Whenever you watched this film at home, you would usually prepare for this scene by muting your tv, but you can’t do that here. You are at the mercy of the movie theater.
Husk places his paw back on top of yours again, before whispering again, “Are you going to be okay? We can walk out for a moment.”
You nod your head, “N…No, this scene isn’t long. I… I’ll just cover my ears.” You lie your giant ears flat against your head, doing your best to encompass them, before closing your eyes. You forgot how loud those noises were… you continue cowering in your seat, distressed by the movie, before you feel something warm wrap around your shoulders, before you are pulled towards Husk, “BOOM!” You tense up again, before being pulled even closer to Husk, and that’s when you realize that it is probably his arm around your shoulder, “CLAP!” You tense up again, “BA-KOW!” Husk pulls you even tighter against him, “KAAABOOOOOOM!” That was the loudest one yet, and upon hearing a slight noise, you feel his other arm wrap around you, encompassing you in his warmth, before you hear him whisper, “Its going to be okay, I’m here for you. I’ll protect you. Somebody has to.” He caresses your back, trying to soothe you. You push yourself against his chest, still clutching your ears, as more sounds roar through the theater. It feels like it will never end, and the only solace you have is feeling Husk hold you tight.
You stay there huddled in his arms for a while, before he releases you, and taps you on the shoulder, you uncover your ears and look up at him, “Hey, Fen. The scenes been over for five minutes, you can relax now.” You slowly settle back in your seat, still reeling from the shock of the loud noises to your sensitive ears, “Are you okay now? The movie is about a shark who goes around swallowing people whole, yet you get scared at the thunderstorm that swept across the bay?”
You nod your head, embarrassed that you were incapacitated for so long, “Y…Yeah,” you sigh in defeat, clearly still shaken up from the event, “I have phonophobia. Or… the fear of loud noises. My large ears amplify loud noises… and that doesn’t really help my case any…” Husk smiles at you, before wrapping his arm around you again, and picking up the popcorn he had placed on the floor during the movie’s thunderstorm. He keeps his arm there this time, which helps you calm down.
The movie continues on, where it gets to the final scene. All the fishermen are converging on the shark with their bigger boat (they thought ahead in this version), before chucking a small explosive into the anthro shark’s mouth. Husk pulls you closer to him, clearly upset about what’s happening. The explosive blows up in the shark’s stomach, which only seems to inflate the shark up quickly, like a ball, before the shark returns to normal, seemingly fine, despite having an explosive blowing up in their chest. The movie ends with the last remaining fishermen arresting the shark for all of their misdeeds against the public, and when asked why they did it, the shark simply said, “Because I was hungry.” You and Husk simply sigh in exasperation, neither of you amused by the ending line. The credits roll, and Husk removes his arm from around your shoulder, before you both stand up, stretching out your bodies from having to sit for so long.
Husk is the first to speak after the movie is over, clearly excited from having seen the movie for the first time, “Oh my gosh. That was so amazing! No wonder people have been trying to convince me to watch this movie for so long! It was so good! And the graphics were so amazing for such an old movie!”
“I know right! And can you believe that everything in that movie was practical effects?” He looks at you incredulously, clearly not believing you, “What, it’s true! I read an article once that said everything was done physically! I know the shark ‘exploding’ is a bit hard to believe, but the actor was actually able to swallow a live bomb whole without getting hurt! All she said in an interview was that the worst she got from that was that everything tasted like charcoal for a week!” He still didn’t believe you though, as he walked away from you, you chase after him, still trying to convince him, “Furry physics are a fickle thing you know!”
That gets him to stop, before he sighs, knowing that you aren’t wrong, “Yeah… I guess she could actually swallow people whole, so there’s reason she wouldn’t be able to take a bomb to the esophagus…” You laugh at him, and soon you catch up with him. You both throw out your trash, before walking back to the lobby.
Husk looks back at you, clearly sad that you won’t be able to hang out with him more, before you come up with an idea, “Hey! It’s only three, and I’m sure you still don’t want to go home.” He thinks for a moment, before shaking his head, clearly not wanting to go back to his house, “So… why don’t you come over to my apartment for a while? I have a few games we could play, and if you’re feeling up to it, I could make some dinner for us to!” You hesitate before saying the last thing, but you go for it anyway, seeing the smile on his face, “Annnnddd, if you decide to come live with me, you’ll at least know what you’re getting yourself into!”
You see him hesitate for a moment, before his smile returns, “Sure! That sounds pretty good actually. I won’t be able to have dinner with you though. My parents texted me a while ago, asking me to at least come home for dinner.” You smile at him, before you both head back to your vehicles. Upon getting there, you give him your address, before you both drive off, heading back to your apartment.
It didn’t take long for you to arrive at your apartment. Traffic was on the light side today, so it was very easy to get back, and even easier for Husk to keep up with you. You both park your cars outside your apartment building, before you both get out, and you lead him to the building.
“Here it is. My lovely abode.” Husk stares up in awe at the apartment building, clearly never having been to one before. You let him admire it for a moment, before you continue, “It’s a pretty great place to be. The neighbors are pretty quiet, and its located in the middle of everything. So, it’s pretty easy to like this place.” You walk inside, leading Husk to the elevator, where you call it down. And while waiting for the elevator, you look at Husk, to still see him gawking at the sights of the… admittedly cheap apartments.
“C’mon dude, it’s not that impressive. It was the cheapest place I could find. It also was pretty safe, or… at least as safe as you can expect an apartment to be.”
Husk looks back at you, before rubbing his head nervously, “Oh, sorry… I’ve never been inside an apartment before… This is just new to me, that’s all.” The elevator arrives, dinging as it finally reaches your floor. And you see your next-door neighbors, Trent and Jack, a skinny red fox and fat panda bear, respectively, getting off.
They wave at you and Husk, clearly excited to see you. The panda speaks up first, speaking jovially, “Oh! Hey Apollo! You’re back early today! Did you leave work early today?”
You shake your head, “No, I was hanging out with my friend here.” You say this, while gesturing at Husk, who just waves his paw again., “He wanted me to hang out with him today, so I obliged and kept him company!”
Jack laughs, before continuing, “Oh that’s great! You never have anyone come over! We only saw your sister come over! And even that was a while ago! You’ll have to invite her over some day! She was a real hoot!”
You laugh nervously, uncomfortable with the direction the conversation went. You grab Husk’s paw, heading towards the elevator, “Yeah, I will certainly have to invite her back over one day! We have to go though; we have a whole night ahead of us! Bye now!” The two of them wave at you, with a confused look on both of their faces.
You drag Husk into the elevator, and push the button for the floor you live on, and once the doors close, you let out a sigh. Husk looks at you for a moment, before speaking up, “So… they were nice.” You just nod your head, unsure of what else to do. He puts his paw on your shoulder, and seeing that you won’t say anything else, he lets the conversation end there.
As you reach your floor, you walk out of the elevator briskly, with Husk following closely behind you. You reach your door, but before you could open it, Husk grips your shoulder, and once you turn to look at him, you can see sadness in his eyes, but also… something close to… understanding.
“Hey, it’s okay. I know what it’s like. Life can be lonely sometimes, but… that’s why we have each other now, isn’t it?” You could feel your eyes watering up, but before it got out of paw, Husk wipes away the forming tears, speaking softly, “Hey. None of that now. I don’t want something like this to sully me looking at what might be my future home. Now stop doing that and cheer up! I want this to be happy moment.”
You look up at him, before wiping your eyes, quickly composing yourself, before smiling again, “You know what… you’re right! This should be a happy moment, not a sad one!” You give the biggest smile you could manage, which actually wasn’t that hard, when you’re looking at Husk’s magnetizing eyes.
Husk puts his paw and your shoulder, and feeling the warmth of his paw embrace your shoulder, you quickly light up, “Now then, why don’t we see that apartment of yours?”
You nod, before turning back to the door, unlocking it, but before opening it, you decide to lighten the mood, putting on your best booming voice, “And now… the moment we have been waiting for… my apartment!” You swing the door open with a flourish, making Husk laugh aloud at your sudden showmanship, before you lead him inside.
You lead him around your apartment, showing him everything from your messy bedroom from that morning, to the kitchen. He wonders at it all, clearly amused by your living situation. He teases you for your dirty bedroom, which you just wave off.
He absolutely loves your living room though. You can see the excited look on his face (and his tail wagging), as he settles in the couch, sinking into the soft material, before looking to you, “Where did you get the couch? It’s really comfy…”
He looks as if he is about to fall asleep, so you flop down on the couch beside him, making the couch shoot him up a bit, and quickly waking him up. He looks at you, clearly annoyed, and you just laugh at him, “I can tell you had a rough night last night, so why don’t you go back and lie on my bed? As long as you don’t go snooping through any drawers, you can sleep for a bit.”
He looks surprised for a moment, before speaking up, “Are you sure you don’t mind? I know you had some things planned for the night…”
You just wave your paws dismissively, “Of course not! It won’t be any fun hanging out with you if you are tired! So, go take a nap. What time do your parents want you home? Just so I can wake you up before then?”
He looks to you appreciatively, “Somewhere around six, so if you want to wake me up around five, that will give me plenty of time to wake up and get going.” You nod your head, understanding his plight, before you lead him back to your bedroom. He lays down in your bed, settling in very fast. The first thing that you bought for your apartment was a better bed, so you know he must be comfortable, he talks to you one last time, in a quiet tone, “And Fen… thank you for today. I know it was just supposed to be a quick get together, but you truly made it a perfect day.”
You can see him tearing up now, so you quickly wipe away the tears, before repeating what he said earlier, “Hey, none of that now. I had a great time today with you today as well, so there’s no need to cry.” You pat his cheek, before you continue, “Now go to bed sleeping beauty.”
“Love you.” He mutters something else, but you couldn’t make it out even if you wanted to, so you stand back up, and make to leave the room. Before you leave though, you turn back around, heading back towards the husky.
You lean over, and give him a quick peck on the forehead. You see his lips curl into a smile, and he turns on his side. And you can see his tail wagging quickly under your sheets. You can’t help but grin wide at that. Happy to see this dog whose life has gotten so rotten, still be able to smile through it all.
You walk back to the living room, and turn on the tv. You grab the controller to the BoxyBoy, and quickly boot it up. You find a game you want to play, and start it up. Preparing to settle in for the next while.
An hour passes by in a flash. You continue playing on the console, too enthralled with your game to notice Husk sneak up behind you. He surprises you by throwing himself across your shoulders from behind. This causes you to jump, but he stops you from moving, by pulling you into a tight hug. Squeezing the air out of your lungs, before he lets go, letting you breathe once again. He maneuvers himself to the front of the couch, and plops down, right next to you, bouncing you up a bit, before you both settle back down.
“Sooo… what you playin’?” He asks this while staring at the screen, watching you play your game.
You’re still a little discombobulated from the forced hug, but you still answer him, “It’s a game called ‘Feral Finder.’ You get to customize your main character as much as you like, and you go around collecting feral animals. They grow up and change as you progress through the game. It’s a pretty fun game. You can’t really play with me though. It’s a single player game.” He continues watching, and as you progress, you show him your lineup. He seems to be interested in the game at least. As he’s looking at your team though, one of your weaker team members stands out to him.
“Hey, what about him? Why is he so weak?” He is referring to your weakest link in the team, a fluffy, dog like creature, whom you promptly named ‘Floofers,’ because you thought the fluffiness of his sprite was adorable. His white fur stood out on your team too. With all of the darker color palettes in the game, it felt good to have a splash of white to try and even things out. You kept him on your team as more of a mascot than anything, but you still couldn’t bare to take him out of your team, “He’s adorable! Why don’t you raise him up more? He must be so cool when he reaches his final stage!”
Husk is looking at you angrily now, and you can’t help but scratch your head, before answering, “This game allows someone on your team to be moral support, so, they sit in the background, and are more there for cuteness then actual fighting. I got him near the beginning of the game, and could just never bare to replace him.”
He still looks angry, but it quickly turns into a knowing smile, “So I guess that means you like white and fluffy dogs, don’t you?”
That sudden comment catches you off guard, leaving you too flustered to actually respond. You grip your necklace tightly, trying to calm your nerves so you can respond. All that comes out though is a stutter, “I…I…I, d… don’t know what you are trying to say… I just liked his floof!”
That comment makes him laugh, and once he’s done laughing, his eyes settle on yours, and he grabs your paws, that have been fumbling around with your necklace, “Hey, it’s okay.” He looks like he is deep in thought for a moment, before he shakes his head, clearly deciding that whatever he was thinking about was a good idea, “I… I think I’m ready to tell you why my parents kicked me out…”
You look at him, shocked, clearly not expecting something like this to come up tonight, before you shakily respond, “Hey, if you’re not comfortable… you don’t have to tell me. I can live with not knowing.” You caress his cheek, worried that if you see him cry, that you might start bawling too.
He shakes his head again, before he continues, if a bit shakily, “No. It’s fine. If I tell you now, maybe things won’t be so weird…” He takes another shaky breath, before he continues, “So, the reason everything got so bad with my parents is because…” You clutch his paws in yours, trying to give him comfort, and to make sure he remembers you are there for him, “I told them I was gay.”
He said that quietly, but you still heard what he said, and fireworks begin to go off in your head. He was gay too! What a relief! At least you didn’t have to worry about that roadblock anymore. Noticing you not saying anything, he begins to speak quickly, “I knew I shouldn’t have done this… I told myself it was a bad idea, but I still went and scared off my only friend…” He gets up from the couch, removing his paws from yours, before trying to walk away.
Before he can get anywhere though, you quickly stand up, “Wait! Don’t go anywhere!” As he turns around, you can see years beginning to form again. You clear your throat, suddenly realizing how dry it was, and the sudden butterflies that were in your stomach, “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to yell. I just… didn’t want you to go yet…” You wring your beige paws together, before clutching your necklace again, seeking whatever confidence you can muster, you mutter the next thing under your breath, “Umm… I’m gay too…” You can see him processing the information, before his eyes suddenly light up, and he runs over to you and, picks you up in a hug, twirling you around in the air, before setting you back on the ground.
You can see him wearing the biggest grin you have ever seen anyone give. Which is a bit of a surprise for you, because he still has tears in his eyes from before, “Oh that’s amazing! I feel like the luckiest man alive right now!”
He dances in place for a moment, clearly overjoyed with this news, and you’re the one to wear a knowing grin this time, “Why’s that?”
Your sudden question throws him for a loop, ending his jig abruptly. He suddenly looks very flustered, “Oh… um… no reason? I just have a good friend who knows the struggles of being gay…” His nervousness gets you to chuckle to yourself, clearly flustered by the whole situation.
Husk nervously looks down at his phone, before he freaks out suddenly, making for the front door, “Oh crap! It’s six o’clock! I got to go! My parents are going to kill me if I don’t get home soon!” You follow him along to the door, and once you get there, he starts saying goodbye, “Ummm… sorry to leave so suddenly, but I really got to go! I don’t want my parents to be madder at me then they are right now!”
You smirk at his urgency, “That’s totally fine! I get that sometimes! My parents used to be just like that! Now go home, and maintain that relationship! And hey, while I got you here, you want to meet up at the café where we first met tomorrow afternoon? It’s my only amount of free time.”
He excitedly turns back to you, before nodding his head, “Yeah, that sounds great! I promise I won’t wake you up tomorrow!”
“It’s a date then!”
He turns back to you, with a surprised look on his face, before he nods his head excitedly, clearly just as excited for it as you are.
“Yeah, I guess it is.”
You stare into each other’s eyes for a moment, neither of you moving. You are both entranced by the other, but you are too scared to make the first move. Husk doesn’t have the same fear as you though, and he leans down, giving you a quick kiss on the lips. You can’t help but melt in his grip, as he caresses your face. Making the feeling of him kissing you all the more worthwhile. When he finally releases you, you can’t help but feel like you’re on cloud nine. That kiss left your lips tingling, and the rest of your body too.
And people say that magic doesn’t exist anymore.
You both nervously stand there, not knowing what to say, but you decide to break the silence, “Just… wow…” You stare into his eyes dreamily, still feeling the aftereffects of the kiss.
You can see him swallow hard, clearly still in the throes of the kiss as well, “Yeah… don’t I know it…” He rubs the back of his head, before he continues, “Now I kind of want to stay… but my parents would have my hide.”
You nod your head, understanding his predicament. You still usher him out the door though, he had to get home after all, “Yeah, I know, but you still have to maintain the relationships with other furs in your life beside me, so get going!”
You push him out the door, and once he’s outside, he turns to you once more, “Yeah, I get it… I guess I’ll leave now…” He still seemed hesitant to go, so you walked up to him, and wrapped your arms around him, wanting to be wrapped in his warm embrace once again. He returns the hug, squeezing you tight against his chest. You can no longer smell the blueberries that you smelt on him yesterday though.
You release him so he can finally leave, “Okay, you should be good to leave now. Bye Husk!”
He waves at you one last time, with a goofy smile across his maw, as he finally turns to leave, “Bye Fen! See you tomorrow!”
“See you then!”
You close the door to your apartment, and go back and lay on the couch, reeling from everything that happened today. From the movie… to the kiss that ended the day. It all felt so surreal. You have been left alone for so long… its nice to finally have someone who is willing to walk through life with you.
As you settle in for the night, your mind can’t help but wonder, what’s going to happen tomorrow?
