Putting this pic up was really inspired by "The Eye" by Hishn ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/131111/ )
Magic was a small, black wolf. While there is a bit of variance in size and personality of the black-coated wolves, for the most part, they're all very shy and stand-offish. I liked Magic, because when everyone had gone home for the day, and things settled down, she would come over to the fence and would let me scratch and pet a little.
I always wanted to capture Magic’s eyes on "film", but never did. She had the most rich, golden-brown eyes!
This picture is horrible for a lot of reasons, first and foremost because I totally loathe seeing cage in a picture! But even so, this pic at least gives a tiny glimpse into the sheer depth of Magic's eye. Truthfully, all the colors are wrong here, and her eye looks more "yellow" than "gold", but I just had to put it up anyway. Inspiration of other folks' art can be like that, huh?
I'll eventually put up another one of Magic so everyone can see the whole wolf! In the meantime, I think that all those talented artists out there might still appreciate this one, if for nothing else, the whole biological form of the eyes and surrounding facial features. The depth is a little lost here, but still... I hope the artists will still find it as a useful reference.
This picture was taken 23-May-03. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and the EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens. The original was taken at full frame of 3072x2048x24b, ISO eqv 400, 1/90 shutter, f/5.6. This image was shrunken down for space conservation.
Disclaimer: I hate to have to put this on here, but the pic is copyright me. Please do not distribute, copy, alter, etc, without my permission. Having said all that, feel free to download and use it for your own inspiration.

I'll have to put up one of Dagger's eye pix too. The only one that's up now that might be considered and "eye" shot is the "Fooey on you" pic, as his eyes are very prominent.
I think wolves have much more expressive eyes than cats. Cats are quick and reactive, so they take everything in with a glance and go on. The only exception to that is full "predator-mode" when they're locked in on-target with laser sighting and radar, with absolutle no deviation at all.
Wolves watch and study always. They're eyes are very "alive" with it, and it shows much more readily than with cats. It's not so hard to capture a wolf looking at you; with cats, it can be a challenge.

This is incredible. Wolves eyes definitely are more expressive than cat's eyes. Trust me... it's hard with my kitten. He's just like "Noo... won't look at you so there." Or his eyes always say the same thing to me. Going to cause mischief.
But I love this pic. Black wolves are my favorite of the color variations of the gray wolf.

The black wolves have an almost mystical aire of regality to them, I think, not so much different than the melanistic cats.
I have always admired wolves, and I still believe that they are everything that humanity could every hope to be, with every member having a place, and cooperating always to achieve their goals, all for the pack as a whole, not for the individual.
