Hello! Hope you're doing well! I recently watched the film "A whisker away" and... it spoke to me in more ways than one. From the music to the characters to the themes It handles, I loved all of it way more than I initially expected to. It's hard to put into words how I felt after watching it, but suffice to say that it left an impression. It's not perfect, it's most likely not for everyone, but for those who find the premise interesting, I recommend giving it a watch, there's more to it than meets the eye.
That said I could not resist drawing the main character, "Muge", putting on the mask and becoming her cat self "Taro". Hope you like it!

Thank you, glad you like it! That's part of the reason why I decided to draw this. I kinda expected them to not show the actual tf in the movie but of course that wouldn't stop me from doing it! That said... I think they did an amazing job in the post-tf department throughout the film.
The movie wasn't amazing, typical Netflix writing tbh. But the transformation themes and the themes of love and relationships were really what they were pushing and I think it was great in that sense as they knew what they wanted there and I feel deep down that the writer(s)/director(s) know about that "TF feeling" I feel we all here know and it came through in a lot of parts.
Yeah perhaps from a writing standpoint it wasn't all that original, but as you mentioned it tackled themes of escapism, shyness and internal conflict pretty well imo, or at least in a way that resonated with me in a deeper level than I expected... let's be honest I wasn't expecting the plot being about tf since that wouldn't be too popular. In that sense, and adding that "Tf feeling" you mentioned, which I completely agree with, made this an amazing film for me. That said, thanks for your comment and glad you liked it! ^^
So cute! And oh boy, I loved a lot of the things the movie did. The magic mask, the integration of themes with the transformation, the ex-human cats from the bar... there's so much to like, but I was kind of disappointed in the conclusion.
They didn't give Muge and Hinode enough time to think or talk about the mistakes they made (especially Muge) trying to communicate with each other before deciding on being in a relationship. When you consider how Hinode was originally annoyed with Muge, then started ignoring her, that really puts her actions in another light. I still relate to her, but I think she really has to own up for some stuff. Other little annoyances like the asshole balloon cat not getting much of a comeuppance (especially when you think about how he manipulated most of the barflies, possibly to the detriment of other people as well), and Hinode not completely transforming for the climax also added to my initial feelings.
After sitting with it for awhile, I think it balances out alright. It's not as consistent as The Cat Returns in tone, but it's a nice diversion with some really great ideas and superior emotional resonance (even if the execution isn't everything I'd like it to be). I'll probably watch the dub at some point after it comes out. Actually, the flaws kind of make me want to make my own wholesome transformation movie.

Yeah the ending can feel a little rushed, but I find it heavily implied that they do realize those mistakes in the umbrella scene. Completely agree with the fat cat part, I'd have loved to see him get a proper punishment. As for Hinode not transforming... I didn't like he only got paws, but liked that he didn't change... It's a bit odd to explain, but if you'd like to discuss this more in-depth I'd gladly do so through notes or discord!
