Species ref for my fursona, the Everglades cat.
While X is an anthro, the actual species is a cryptozoological swamp animal.
'Glades cats are fairly large animals, about the size of a large dog, and are actually reptilian. They could also be defined as loosely mammalian, however, due to the small mane of hair that goes from their heads down their necks.
The common Everglades cat has a rather large, fleshy neck. It seems to serve very little purpose other than possible protection from strangling bites.
The brown and black patterns are to distort their body image to confuse other predators, like alligators or bears, and provide better camouflage among the grass and reeds.
Their nostrils can contract and expand to keep them from getting water up them, and their eyes have a small membrane of clear flesh that protects the eye in water.
The long, seven-spiked fin atop their backs usually only flare up when they're angry, or can serve as a rudder in the water.
Other than this information, I have nothing else to really say. Please ask me for any more information and I'm pretty sure I'll have an answer for it :3
tl;dr: I made a cryptozoological Floridian species for my fursona.

He's a famous album cover artist, one of my favorites. These are landscapes, but I think you can get a good idea of his style. Your design reminded me of him.

Pretty kitty. Reminds me of wafer sticks: http://images1.nicice.se/Temp/afdbd.....241bd0b3db.jpg
I'm afraid this is the only acceptable marking type for the males, though the shade of brown and beige and amount of black fade can vary a lot. The females are the same beige but have only black markings, as illustrated in this (uncolored) picture: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3981363/
The males grow larger than the females, and the males' manes are brown while the females' are black, but they both have the same mane and 7 fin spines.
Thank you for asking these things, I've needed to scope out some of this stuff since I haven't covered all of their biology yet D:
