Yeah, that wasn't very nice of them. Farley's always had that fear in the back of his mind, that he'd actually wind up in a combat situation where he's being shot at. While that's technically what he signed up for, that's still not something he's ever looked forward to.
Luckily, at that point in the story at least, the guys hadn't seen much in the way of real combat, only training exercises and security patrols.
