Hello my fur fellows! I am hear with another story! This one took me way too long to write (approximately five hours), because I was trying to deal with a topic of story telling I don't have much experience with, I think I did okay enough with it, but I could definitely learn a few things. I also tried to simulate text messaging, so it may look good, it may look bad, who really knows?
This chapter focuses on a text conversation between Husk and Fen, and it very quickly turns into a more serious topic, as Fen journeys to figure out what Husk's parents wanted with Husk.
Anyway. This story focuses on a sadder tone, so I hope I don't upset anyone, and if I do, that means I did a good job right?! Just kidding, don't be sad at my story, be happy that there will be more eventually with much happier tones! Woohoo! Again, all criticism is appreciated, and I hope you furs all have wonderful days/ nights!
EDIT: I realized that the text message design that I have in the pdf does not transfer well into the description when copy pasted, so I went back and edited the description so it'll look better if you don't want to read the pdf. Happy reading submission readers!
Café Husky
Chapter 3
Once you got back to your apartment from the café, you decided to relax for a while. You had quite a long day, what with meeting Husk at the café. Speaking of Husk, your mind can’t help but wander back to him, and you begin to wonder what all is going on with his parents, because he really couldn’t get out the reason why he was so upset about what happened between him and his parents. He was such a mysterious dog, and you really couldn’t get a good grasp on anything about him. Sure, he seemed overly kind and everything, but he got caught up in his emotions a lot of the time, breaking down a lot on the chance encounter you guys had with each other. It’s not like it’s a bad thing or anything, you just have no idea what to think about him. You just wish he told you a bit more about him. If he told you more, then maybe you could have said something that helped him feel more comfortable.
He really is cute though, isn’t he? He just had such soft looking fur, and when he hugged you, you instantly knew that you would never tire of his hugs. His fur also smelled faintly of… blueberries, oddly enough. I guess that muffin, really was a great idea, huh? He must really like blueberries. You’re going to have to get him a gift someday. You just love giving people gifts. It helps fill you full of life, and keeps you going throughout the day. You’re going to have to get him something that really means something, especially if he didn’t overstress the situation with his parents. Too bad you aren’t that artistically gifted, because you would love to get him a present that you specifically made by yourself, because that would make the gift that much more personal.
That is all assuming that you are going to meet up with Husk again. You assume that you guys are going to meet up again. There seemed to be some sort of spark between the both of you, and you would love to be able to be closer with him. That is also assuming that he is actually gay as well.
You’ve known for a long time that you were gay, and it is one of the reasons that you got out of your house as fast as possible. Your parents couldn’t accept you for who you were, and they had this perfect perception of who you should be, and tried to enforce that ideal on you. You knew that they were a bad influence on you, and you wanted to get away as soon as possible, so you left your “home” as soon as you turned 18, deciding to create a new home, where you could be whatever you wanted to be. The only fur who ever really accepted you for who you were was your big sister, and she means the world to you. The two of you have lost touch recently, but you knew that the two of you would eventually get back together, because that’s what the two of you always managed to do, no matter what.
After thinking to yourself for a little while, you decide to get up and make dinner. You decide to make teriyaki chicken that night. You love both teriyaki and chicken, so it is the ideal meal! Rice would be a fantastic side to go with it too!
While cooking dinner, you decide to text Husk to see how he was doing, I’m sure his conversation with his parents wouldn’t last this long, so you sent him a text.
"Hey Husk, its Fen, if you don’t mind me asking how did the conversation with your parents go?"
While texting him, your dinner was completed, and you decided to chow down. Everything turned out so amazing, you couldn’t help but devour it, not really tasting anything that you tasted. Once you were done, you washed off your dirty dishes, placed them in the dishwasher, and decided to retire to your bedroom for the night.
After you got into your pajamas to relax for the night, you heard your phone go off to alert you of a text, and upon checking it you see that it is from Husk. I hope everything went okay with his parents…
"Hey Fen. I guess everything went okay enough. They just wanted to have a talk with me about what happened before I went to the café"
"Well, that doesn’t sound entirely terrible. Unless you broke down again like you did with me!"
"Hey, at least give me some credit! I’m not a crybaby all the time!"
You can’t help but laugh at how defensive he gets. He really is a charming one isn’t he?
"And besides! They just wanted to apologize for how they acted this morning, things got really tense between us, and they felt really bad about how things went down"
"Even though they still had the same ultimatum"
"Then, if you don’t mind me asking, what was the final decision?"
It was a long time before he texted you back, and he was obviously thinking about if it would be a good idea to tell you or not. Before you could text him back though, he texted you again.
"i guess it wouldn’t be a terrible idea to tell you, as long as you promise to not tell anyone"
His texting seems to be a bit off; he must be having a hard time though this whole situation. I’ll just have to reassure him.
"I promise you I won’t tell anyone. I know you don’t know me that well, but I promise to be here for you"
Having sent that, you didn’t realize that you were still wearing your fox necklace, and you were clutching it tightly without even knowing that you were doing it.
"they said I have until the end of the month to find somewhere else to live, unless I want to live on the streets"
You laid there for a minute, completely shocked at what you had just heard. You knew that the situation must have been bad, but you had no idea it was something this drastic. Husk talked his parents up so much, the fact that they would threaten something like this throws you off a little. If only you knew the whole situation that spawned this situation, then maybe you could relate to him, but you had no idea. You know that you have to message him back, to at least raise his spirits a little.
"Oh gosh Husk. I’m so sorry to hear that. I know that you idolized your parents, so this must be heartbreaking."
"And I really appreciate you telling me this. It takes a lot of strength to tell somebody you just met about something like this."
"thanks fen, i really appreciate having you here to help me through this. i needed someone right now, and i guess you are just who i needed"
You smiled to yourself, knowing that you helped a little bit helped fill you with a bit of joy. Although you knew he was still hurting on the inside, at least now he knew that you were here for him.
"i just dont understand how they could turn on me so quickly, i thought we had such a good relationship"
Those sad words really got to you. He must have valued the loyalty of his family, enough so that this would utterly destroy him. You never really went to your parents for anything, so you didn’t depend on them much, but Husk must have relied on them a lot. He just seems so… defeated. You, however, now have the power to cheer this pup up. Even if you are terrible at consoling others.
"I’m sure you guys have a great relationship Husk, and I don’t know what you did to entail this sort of response, but I know that one day, the wounds between your family will heal, and everything will turn back to what it was before the whole incident. I just know it."
You pause a minute before sending the next text. Wondering if doing something like this is way too soon. Your fingers are moving across your phone screen before you even have another thought about it.
"And, I know this isn’t really on the forefront of your mind right now. But, at the end of the month, if you desperately need somewhere to stay, you can come and live with me in my apartment, you could at least hang out on the sofa, if anything"
You don’t know why you texted that, but it felt like something good to do, to at least offer Husk some options on what to do. You look down to see that your paw is clasped tightly around your necklace, having been wandering back to it for a while now, concerned about Husk’s situation, and what he might do if things don’t exactly go his way. You take off your necklace, to avoid hurting your hands later on, and see that Husk has texted you again.
"really? do you mean that? if I cant find anything by the end of the month, i may have to take you up on that"
"and Fen, thank you. you really have helped me out tonight. and knowing i have a backup plan can really alleviate some stress. i know u just met me today, and i have dumped a real mess on you today, so i really appreciate you being here for me. ive needed someone to talk to for a long time, youve been a good friend"
You sigh to yourself, feeling all of the weight that was placed on your shoulders suddenly lessen, knowing that Husk has calmed down a little really helps you feel better about the whole situation. The fact that he really trusts you is really reassuring to you too, because at least he knows he can come to you for anything. Even if it may be something tiny.
"It is no problem Husk! I can’t leave someone alone when they are hurting, I would be a terrible fur to do something along those lines."
"And anyway, I’ve had a great time spending time with you today! Even if the ending wasn’t how I expected the day to end, I’m really glad I decided to stop and talk with you. It has been the highlight of my week!"
"Awwww, that’s so sweet! My conversation with you has really helped me along today, so I have to thank you for everything that you have done! You could have left me alone in that café today, but you didn’t, and that really makes me happy."
"Unfortunately, I think it’s time for me to sleep. I’ve had an emotionally exhausting day, and its really late. I’m sorry to cop out on you, but I’m so tired…"
You are kind of sad that this conversation had to end, but you eventually knew that it was going to happen. With the clock on your phone telling you it’s eleven o’clock, you knew you had to sleep too, so you concede defeat and decide to let him sleep.
"That is definitely okay. I know you’ve had a pretty bad day, so I won’t keep you up. Good night Husk! Sleep well!"
"And just so you know, things will get better in the end. Even when things in life try to get you down, life has a weird way of making everything better in the end"
"Thanks Fen, I guess there’s really nowhere else to go but up, so I will keep that in mind. Thanks for everything today, and good night!"
You stared at your messages for a while longer. Running your paw beans across your phone to stare at the conversation the two of you had. You were still worried about Husk, but he seemed to have calmed down a little near the end of your conversation. His texts returned to normal after your heart-to-heart moment, and he seemed really indebted to you for talking to him. Even if you thought it wasn’t that big a deal.
You plugged up your phone, and got ready for bed, wondering all the while why this particular fur worried you so much, even though you just met him. Your mind slipped from that thought, among other things about Husk, as you slowly drifted into a deep slumber.
