When the offworlders left the planet, they left behind not only their buildings, but many supplies, tools, and weapons.
Many of the things left behind in the now-abandoned facilities found their way into the hands of the native Ridgebacks, including the armor and weapons abandoned by the various security forces. From there, a number of Ridgeback rogues took up work as mercenaries, hired guns, bounty hunters, and security personnel in the few remaining offworlder settlements and colonies, their adaptations to their homeworld, rugged build, and newfound armament making them desirable to those settlements that lacked the resources or backing to have proper security details, bars and businesses needing bouncers and security guards, or those individuals or small groups in need of toughs or thugs or bodyguards.
Their familiarity with the terrain and conditions of the region also makes them excellent bounty hunters, tracking down fugitives who flee to Terminus with the hopes of hiding out in the wilderness or abandoned industrial facilities that dot the landscape.
This particular merc is making due with what he could find in one of the smaller armories or maybe even the back of a long-forgotten transport truck: weathered armor and boots, dirty backpack, a loincloth formed from some of the rugged fabric often found in the settlements, and a battered old carbine that still works somehow.
As 2015 went on, I tapered off my Ridgeback art, instead focusing on other projects and characters, but I never forgot about them entirely, and they'd still appear on occasion.
