I really want to play this game, but I don't know if I should download the free and apparently better pc version or get the wii version...

Hatii would have made for an awesome Mimiga in the game, though. She's the prettiest out of all of them. :3

I'd recommend at least trying the PC version first. I honestly prefer the translation on that one.

The Wii version has an officially approved, accurate translation (as opposed to the PC version's fan translation), corrected framerate, improved graphics and alternate musical score to go with an increased amount of game content.

The only way the PC version could be considered better is that it is free and slower (thus easier for those with bad reaction times).

Even then, nothing against the original - I'd recommend you play it first, too; it is a beautifully crafted and highly enjoyable game that I urge you to play in any form.

I wouldn't go that far, there's been a lot of criticism over the Wii version. From little things like the default sound effect volume being 3x as loud as it should be, drowning out the music, to the remixed music tracks being broken (the guy who remixed it posted that some of the instruments are just flat out missing), to the original songs not looping correctly, to the game crashing if you open the map in certain locations (I believe it happens on The Wall)... they promised they'd patch the problems out by the time the EU version rolled around, hopefully they'll patch the US version by then also.

I'd buy the Wii version to support Pixel, but I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it. The people who did the port are honestly coming aross as dicks, both with how they're handling Cave Story (fans were complaining about the music being broken +a year ago when the first YouTube videos were released and they still couldn't fix it by release) and how they're treating Nifflas.

I would go that far, but opinions differ from person to person.

The volume can be changed in the options menu, easy and the map is useless anyway.
I've personally never had it crash because of the map - I've even tested situations people have put forward in which it has crashed and at worst only had the map display incorrectly.
The remixes may be broken in places but they often sound superior to the original music anyway. (Bar Gravity, which I can't adjust to.)

Nicalis, though, really are a bunch of dicks and deserve nothing from anyone, but that doesn't change the fact that the Wii version is ultimately the only version that is official for anyone outside of Japan, and the only way that people can actually show support towards Pixel.

As a bonus for this, you get an amazing game that outplays the original PC version in almost every way.

I don't think the local game-stores have the Wii version for Cavestory just yet.

It's available for 1200 points on Wiiware, not as a disk in-store.

I think that the shading is not as hard to do. what I basic would do is color with my normal line art and then remove black level lines after

Ah yes Cave story. I saw 2 endings to it. I loved the game, abit depressing at times. Yet awesome, most of the cutscenes are super... emotial like the under water boss battle.
