These plants both use the wind to disperse their seeds. I’m sure there’s a scientific name for this, but I’m feeling too lazy right now to look it up.
The photo on the left is of a common dandelion, known as a favorite culinary treat of ice age rhinos. It’s one of many that plague my lawn each summer. The fluff ball is approximately 2-1/2 cm across.
In contrast the plant on the right has gigantic fluff balls, approximately 7 or 8 cm in diameter. I don’t know the proper name of these things, but I have to guess they are in the same family as my little dandelions. They are easy to spot while out riding on my favorite bicycle trail.
