Well, resource as "players" is finite resource, so not many can actually afford maintaining servers.
Especially when such games want to take all the free time possible to complete them.
Also, trying to be WOW knockoff, never worked, because why should WOW players move to lesser knockoff WOW. Same is with Lineage2.
Although, many publishers tend to be just neglectful managers, like Aeria Games, Nexon, CyberStep, ETC. They just do quick cash-grab scheme, or milk the game dry scheme.
I do not know how it will change.
