I know I was supposed to have the YCH up, but some things happened that destroyed my creativity for a spell. I won't go into the details here, as that's not what this pic is about, so just let me explain what I decided to do.
I recently created a version of my "WildDogs" skin for my F-18 in DCS that's based around Dakaras colors, and decided to use that as my personal skin. So I took her up on a server I'm part of, and became a watchful guardian for an allied helicopter on the deck as he was busy establishing a SAM net for a base I was operating from on the Persian Gulf Map. The mission was simple: Keep watch over the chopper as it moved everything to where it was needed to get the base operational and its defenses up and running. Throughout the operation, I made several landings to rearm and refuel and managed to keep the skies sanatized while the Huey worked. This screenshot was taken after I was already established at a decent altitude where I could cover the whirly bird, and had already engaged a Mig-21 and Mig-25 on my way in. Shortly after this was taken, a pair of Mirages would attempt an incursion of the airspace from the North West, followed shortly after that by a pair of Mig-29s.
By this time, a friendly F-16C had arrived, and was trying to help as best he could, but was forced off by weapons issues and battle damage. The Mirages would be shot down in short order, one by me, the other by the F-16, but the damage to his craft meant I had to deal with the Migs on my own. I engaged head-on, cranking to avoid return fire, with one AMRAAM slamming home, which was followed up by a HAWK from the base defenses, downing the first Fulcrum. The second Fulcrum began a series of turns to try and get behind me, but after several rotations, he broke off and went high. I swung around, and slew the AIM-9X onto his engines, and fired. The shot ripped off the rail, and found its mark.
"That's the second Mig down" I called out.
The Huey, relieved called back "I know, I saw it, nice work!"
Sometime later, more allies began arriving over the base to help out. A second Hornet, the F-16C from earlier, and even an AV8B Harrier. Together, and with the aid of our SAM Network, we fended off attacks from Flankers, Frogfoots, and even Persian Cats. Unfortunately, after the Tomcats were driven off, I attempted a night landing at the base, and my aircraft lost steering, likely due to the high-G loads put on the aircraft, and it slid off the runway on touchdown, smashing into a tree at 125kts, destroying the aircraft instantly. The remaining aircraft were able to continue their CAP to my knowledge, however the game had to pick this moment to crash on me.
But I was feeling good about it all, and frankly, this is why I've gotten into simulation games like DCS. If ya find the right bunch, you can have fun and some pretty epic air battles.
I highly recommend it if you haven't tried it. It's free to try, however the modules are not cheap. There are however three aircraft available 100% for free. Two of them you start with, the Su25T Frogfoot, and the TF-51D Mustang. The third is a community module of the A4E Skyhawk. If you are looking to try the game, these are the aircraft I recommend giving a try first, and if you fall in with the right group, they'll welcome a Mud Mover with open arms. The Tomcats, Eagles, and Flankers may rack up the kills, but it's the Humble Warthog and Frogfoot that help win the battles on the ground.
Special Thanks to:
Maverick-Tex, Nightmare, Death Clock, and several others (if I missed your name, PM me) for a memorable flight op.
If you want to download the skin so you can see me if I'm playing with you, just follow the link below: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vJHBpYBK5yX2yhEc7eyYv1z6fSV4J5iN/view?usp=sharing
I do not have any instructions on how to install, but many other liveries on the Eagle Dynamics Website will have them. Looking forward to seeing ya'll in the skies.
