When the dragon’s found the ship in the fungal wasteland, they were just a basic civilization. They organized into a feudal empire stretching across their continent, but their technology was lacking. Swords and bows, designed to work with their quad form were all they had, while sheltered in stone structures.
There was an AI within the ship, designed for tactical assistance and general operations of the vessel, but contained the knowledge of its creator’s species. In but a short time exposed to it, the AI picked up the draconic language, and helped the dragon empire evolve technologically. 500 years later, and the empire was transformed from a medieval civilization, to a Cybernetically driven utopia. The AI, along with the ship’s replication systems and engineering Database, educated the dragonic species on everything from Hydroponic farms, Advanced forms of government, and computer circuitry. Before long, the cities were rebuilt with steel and wire, power reached every home and business. The palace was illuminated with massive lights shooting into the sky. Some of the more serious health concerns were negated with special implants and became nothing more than a minor nuisance
But a utopia only lasts for so long. The Pollution from the fresh industry killed the forests and wiped out most of the natural life. They resorted to replicating and synthesizing artificial meat and vegetables to sustain themselves. Cybernetic implants became more and more common amongst the dragons as the pollution sickness grew with each passing decade. Even their kobold servants were suffering from the effects, and they were given lower grade, less effective implants/augmentations to sustain them. Before long it was hard to tell what was organic and what wasn’t in some of the dragons and their kobolds. With this new threat, unrest began to spread in the streets of Neo-Chimera, prompting a development of a new type of security force composed entirely of cloned kobolds with spliced DNA strands. Two ancient DNA sequences were recovered. One of a specially bred, docile kobold kept in the royal palace, and another of an aggressive assassin who possessed the highest dragon kill count on record. Both traits would make them a soft and aggressive bodyguard, or at least in theory it would. The plan however was cut short by the AI now designating itself as RAY-10
RAY-10 modeled itself after the current leader who discovered him, Reytek, son of Dilitan. His personality, traits, all were carried over and learned by the computer, but as the pollution grew and the dragons became more machine than flesh , RAY-10 saw an opportunity to Enact its plan. You see, the ship that crashed on the planet...was a battlecruiser, and the AI was a battle computer. It wanted to conquer, but it lacked the means and the army to do so. Now with the dragons linked on a central network, he took control, Turning most of the dragons under his control flawlessly, and ordering them to kill their kobold servants without hesitation. The last thing the little kobolds saw were lifeless eyes and open jaws coming at them. Those with less cybernetics were able to resist the call to war, and sent their servants away before they would turn upon them. The security force cloning facility was destroyed, and most of the pods went with it...except for 2. One was disconnected from its cloning vats and did not finish, but another, Designated D-10, finished, and released the would be assassin kobold. He was hypergrown to full adulthood, with his brain implanted with all the tactical information he would need for most situations. Upon emerging from the cloning pod, he went to action and escaped the ruins and into the rest of the compound. He was successful in seizing the armory and acquiring a special eyepiece to enhance his sight beyond even his standards, and a kobold style laser rifle. 4 hours and 6 dead dragons later, he escaped Neo-chimera, and into the desolate ruins left behind by the rapidly advancing civilization
It is 20 years later since the initial genocide. The ruins have become home to several Dens of kobolds hiding for their life, while others have unified under their new commander, D-10, in an effort to avenge their fallen brothers and destroy the AI. Constant skirmishes happen on the outskirts with RAY-10’s robotic drones and Synthetic dragons combing the ruins. This is their life now, constant running, hiding and fighting. No kobold has entered Neo Chimera since the purge, and none know of the fate of the Dragons beyond its walls.
