It'd be pretty impossible to own one privately as a pet because of their endangered status. They're on about the same level as lynx, caracal, serval, and other of the smaller wild cat species - they can do alright in a "pet" situation, but they can't be domesticated, and for the sake of the animal those species should only be kept by very experienced owners.
