TwitterWhen animals considered to be "prey" by the apex predators of the world begin to band together for safety, where does it leave those caught in between?
Namely, a pair of pine martens, carnivores and flesh-eaters themselves, but small enough to be considered food for the bears, wolves and gluttons of the forest and field. They're on a journey to seek sanctuary with the rabbits, squirrels and other prey that have gathered to Oren--but they don't know if welcome or condemnation will meet them.

True, but in real life pine martens can and do eat fruits and vegetables, so if the colony has been there long enough to store for winter he could help with that, have food, and not have to eat anyone. He's just not mentally ready yet for a life that doesn't involve hunting to survive.
I imagine she sleeps through a lot of it. Also you have to remember that Rask is currently living in a massive den of prey animals that would also be eating most if not all the berries and veggies to sustain themselves and judging by their patrols they don't exactly leave their borders if they don't strictly have to. I'd think they'd stick closest to the bear markings that have been proven to scare off less observent predators like the wolves.
This is also true, but if they are adding to the community over time then they must have some way of not only sustaining themselves but to be able to feed both kits born into the community and also strangers bringing along sparks. Most of this will likely resolve itself as we get to know the community and its situation more. Until it's outright stated that Rask's choice is eat fish or die, my presumption is that he'll be fine barring unforseen events.
No its more fear of change, the problem rask faces is that he isn't a predator anymore. What is he then? How can he be anything else, and its a fear of tribe too. His uncle is gone, his howl tribe of martens goen, and that in itself is scary. To be friends with food, your not a tribe with food but now he is? How can it be? He will die, and it will be pointless.
You catched perfectly the face of a person who is under a heavy emotional pressure. Sadly this feeling is familiar, as he is holding his head, griping his hair.
Make a realistic comic is not only mean the visual side, shades, lights and so on, it's mean the gestures, emotions too.

Oh dear, smallest part of me wonders if a predator's place among prey would be, well, fending off more dangerous predators.
At least then they'd have food, as morally gray as it is when you think too deep into it. Tho, that's kinda the whole core of the society is 'what's really right or wrong anymore'
