This building near the old bridge of Frankfurt is a monastry of the Teutonic Knights and it is also used as the museum for Iconography. The teutonic knights are an originally military order of knightmonks that dates back to the crusades of the middle ages. Today they are a purely charitable catholic organisation. Their insignia is a black cross on a white shield, it is in a modified form still used as the insignia of the german military.
