Based on some of the incidents that happened to me as a child. Sleep paralysis, and Hypnagogia are not at all pleasant. Especially to a 10 year old girl.

Some time between 6 or 7 and 10 or 12, I had recurring nightmares.
One in particular was finding an atomic bomb sitting our front yard.

Ah, a fellow member of the Duck and Cover Club. My first school in Rockville MD had an underground bomb shelter that doubled as Kindergarten classrooms. Fat lot of good that would have done us kids - we were within spitting distance of Washington DC
