Every cafe's signature drink should be memorable. And there's nothing quite as memorable as turning into a balloonie cow.

The decadent aroma of coffee, milk, and freshly made rolls wafted through the air of the Muu Bru cafe. A beautiful sunset gleaned through the windows, bathing the interior in a soothing, low orange light. The evening air was calm; the atmosphere comforting. A shame no one was around to enjoy it.
Coco sighed. It had been a long, yet very slow day. And slow days always felt the longest. The brown balloon cow looked over the nearly-empty cafe; the only others inside were the grill cook and another waitress, who was busy sweeping the floors. “Still a few hours left…” Checking the clock, Coco let out another deep sigh. She wasn’t tired; just extremely bored. “Gonna fall asleep if nothin’ happens soon.”
A faint bell chimed through the building. The door creaked open, accompanied by a small blast of warm, summer evening air. And with that, the first patron of the evening walked in; a tall, lanky human with a mess of black hair spilling out of a grey hoodie. “Welcome to the Muu Bru cafe, sweetheart!” Coco instinctively turned towards the door and greeted the customer with a warm smile on her rubbery muzzle.
“H-hey Coco.” The customer replied with a timid voice.
“Oh, Harvey? Been quite a while! C’mon, take that hood off and show me that shinin’ grin!” She spoke with a sweet, welcoming southern twang.. He did as asked, removing the hood, though there was no grin. “Aw, hun, what’s the matter?” A small, short-lived smile grew on his face as she led him past the many empty tables to a booth in the back corner; she remembered his favorite spot in the cafe. Though it wasn’t the most professional behavior, Coco sat down across from him. The two had grown close during his many visits; a comfortable friendship. “Now, tell me what’s buggin’ ya?”
“Just a lot of stuff going on. School, internships, stress.” He just started venting, and Coco was more than happy to keep listening.
“Hoo boy, sounds like yer havin’ a rough time.” She tapped her squeaky hoof on the floor, before smiling cheerfully. “Tell ya what: Sounds like you need a drink. What’ll ya have?”
“Um, well…” Harvey blushed and looked around nervously. Thankfully, the only ones in the building were the three balloon cows and himself. “Last time, you told me about a special drink. The… new brew?” His voice cracked and hushed.
“Ya mean the Muu Bru Special?” A mischievous grin found its way onto Coco’s muzzle. Harvey’s face turned a bright red. Coco couldn’t help but chuckle to herself. The Muu Bru Special was the signature of the cafe, and was indeed a special drink. Though the employees kept the specific recipe a secret, most regulars at least knew that it would turn the drinker into a balloon cow, much like the workers themselves.
“I’m a little… nervous.” Harvey spoke meekly. Coco stroked his head reassuringly.
“No reason to be, hun. Been quiet all day.” She motioned to the still-empty cafe with a shrug. “N’one’ll see ya, and I’m here to help though it. Since ya seemed worried though~” She stood up and pulled out a notepad and pen from her apron that barely covered her rubber udder. “A small should be good; just enough to be a big ol’ cow like me for an hour.”
“Actually, could you make it a medium?” Harvey’s face turned even redder than before, though he was at least smiling now.
“Ha, comin’ right up!” Coco winked and walked back towards the kitchen, each step filling the otherwise quiet room with a squeak from her balloonie hips. Harvey took a deep breath. Half of his mind was telling him to go through with it, to enjoy it. The other was telling him to leave; to get up from the chair, walk out, and never return. So lost in his own thoughts, Harvey didn’t notice how much time had passed, nor did he notice Coco returning.
“Ya mind if I sit with ya? Think ya may want a friend for this.”
Harvey jumped; Coco’s voice snapped him back to reality. The scent of milk and coffee wafted from the single mid-sized mug sitting on a silver tray in the middle of the table. She gently slid it over with a warm smile. Harvey just looked down at it hesitantly. Can I really do this?
“I’m here for you. And I know yer gonna love it.” Coco reassured, her voice almost motherly. Nodding, Harvey took a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself. With one more look at her comforting smile, he took the first sip. The drink mixture of coffee and a special type of milky cream, almost silky. He’d never had anything like it before; it was pure bliss. Without any hesitation, Harvey quickly downed the rest and placed the mug back down, the creamy taste lingering on his lips.
Coco just chuckled, his eyes showing none of the nervousness from before. “If ya thought the taste was good, wait’ll you feel it.” As she spoke, Harvey began to feel a strange warmth in his body. It wasn’t uncomfortable, but rather a gentle heat much like that of the drink. His face in particular felt quite hot, burning like a fever even. The first thoughts in his head were those of panic, but then something began to change. His human nose started to grow outwards, taking on a more rounded shape. Crossing his eyes let him see that it was turning a bright shade of pink and taking on a reflective, rubbery sheen. Harvey’s jaw also started to stretch a bit, changing his face to much more closely resemble a muzzle. The changes felt extremely comforting, natural even. Underneath his long, messy black hair, his ears began to change, almost as though they were moving higher on his head. Much to his shock, they were, as well as stretching to the point they were riding high above his hairline. And just when Harvey thought things couldn’t get stranger, two large horns quickly sprouted atop the sides of his head. But instead of being solid when he instinctively touched them, they made a loud squeak. Almost as though they were made of rubber and latex.
“So, how long have ya wanted to try this?” Coco watched calmly as he examined his horns. From her experience, the best way to coax a first-timer through the transformation was to remain calm and comforting. Be a friend for them. Be soothing. And don’t show them mid-change; most found it too strange for their first time.
“Since I started coming here… I was just too nervous to try it, especially in public.” Harvey replied, his voice as meek as ever. Though he couldn’t see it, his skin, or at least his face, was starting to change color, turning from a pasty beige to a milky white. Black patches also formed; one on his chin, cheek, and around his left eye. And much like his pink nose and squeaky horns, it took on a rubber-like shine, reflecting the soft sunlit glow.
“Oh my!” She wasn’t surprised. Deep down, she always had a feeling. “Well, glad ya came ‘round. Y’gonna feel much better after bein’ a big balloon cow fer a bit.” Harvey nodded and smiled; the newly-formed cow muzzle felt natural, as though he’d been like this forever. The warmth grew stronger as the rest of his body started to change colors as well, taking on a similar milky white and black-spotted pattern; a cow-print. Harvey rolled up his sleeves to try and alleviate some heat, but could only stare wide-eyed at his hands; His fingers had fused into three groups: The pointer and middle were now one, ring and pinky another, and thumb separate. And they had all turned a shiny, rubbery black color. What was stranger is that, despite having regular human hands his entire life, these felt no different; completely normal and natural. Much like the cow muzzle, he felt like this is how he had always been.
Harvey’s arms puffed outwards slightly, starting to feel more like and resemble a balloonie. Even without looking, he could feel his chest and stomach changing. His belly started to swell outwards, yet still felt very light. Much like a balloon filled with air, it puffed larger and larger, until it was noticeably stretching the hoodie. His hips and legs succumbed to the same changes, though to a much larger degree. The formerly slender hips ballooned outwards, stretching his pants to an extreme degree. His belt started cutting painfully into his gut and hips. That was quite short-lived; the belt snapped around his growing waist, the pieces falling out of the belt loops. But that wasn’t the end of it for his pants. Harvey’s thighs also blimped outwards, swelling to a size that resembled a log. The seams on his jeans snapped and popped off at an alarming rate.
“Oh, mah bad. Shoulda warned ya about belts. And pants.” It was Coco’s turn to blush apologetically. Harvey just shrugged it off, too entranced by the strange sensations in his body. Further down his legs, another bizarre change was happening. The simple shoes he had on suddenly felt a lot larger. That wasn’t the true case though; it was his feet that were getting smaller. It was such a strange sensation, but Harvey felt his feet shrink and grow rounder. His shoes easily fell off upon lifting his legs. Hooves. He had hooves now. Harvey opened his mouth to say something, but no words formed.
But the strangest change was yet to come. Right below his ballooned belly, a small burst of heat started to form. Something was growing, and he both knew and feared exactly what it was. Unlike the other parts of his body that had changed slowly, this was quick, almost instant. A new bulge formed underneath his hoodie, right below his gut. On that bulge were four smaller bulges. His eyes and hung jaw was pure, utter disbelief; udders. In complete shock, Harvey didn’t even notice a surge from behind, right above his ballooned rump. From the base of his spine, a long, thick, rubbery tail with a large tuft at the tip had sprouted and was waving nervously; involuntarily.
And with the newly sprouted tail and udders, it was complete. Harvey’s body had completely transformed, now having the much shinier, rubber-like texture that all balloonies sported, Coco included. Still in disbelief, Harvey slowly clambered to his feet, or hooves rather. Yet again, everything felt natural, even his new, extremely thick thighs. The only exception were the udders; those were just too bewildering. Still too stunned to speak, Harvey just stood there and examined his new form; rubbery squeaks and creaks sounded throughout the building.
“Ya make fer quite the cutie cow, Harv-hun!” Coco stood up and handed him a mirror from her ill-fitting apron. He slowly examined his head, then the rest of his body, including beneath his shirt. There was no mistaking it; he was a balloonie cow, just like her.
“… udders?” Harvey’s voice cracked again; his mind still processing everything that just happened. “Those are female.”
“Mhm! But see, when most people thinka cows, they thinka horns and udders.” Coco explained cheerfully, having helped quite a number of customers with the same reactions. “So even though yer still male, a balloonie bull, the Muu Bru special gives em both! Just a lil fun thing.” She couldn’t help but laugh. There was nothing quite like seeing a customer’s reaction to becoming a big, balloon cow for the first time.
“Makes sense, I suppose.” Her cheery mood was infections; Harvey started to smile.
“So how’re ya feelin? Calmer? Less stress, I reckon?” The experience had been a strange one. But Harvey had to admit; he enjoyed it. The feeling of his body changing had actually felt quite comforting, and his new body felt just as natural as he had before, even with the udder addition.
“Yeah, a lot better. Thank you so much, Coco.” Harvey nodded.
“Of course, hun!” Coco quickly reached forwards and pulled Harvey into a tight hug, both to his surprise and delight. Their blimped, rubbery belly squished and squeaked against each other. And much to her surprise, Harvey graciously returned the tight embrace. He was feeling a lot more open now, a lot better. She eventually broke off from the squeaky hug with a smile.
“Now, I gotta tell ya, the medium’ll keep ya like this for ‘round four hours. I sure as heck won’t mind if ya hang round till yer human again. Probably be dark soon though.” Coco tapped her as she talked. “Or if yer comfy, ya can head out and show the world yer cutie balloonie bovine booty!” She playfully prodded his ballooned behind.
“If it’s ok with you, I’d like to stay for a bit. I think I’d freak out if I went looking like this.” Harvey looked over his balloonie cow body. While he did like it, going out in public, even just to walk home, would still have been too nerve-wracking.
“Don’t mind at all, Harv! C’mon, let me show ya somethin’.” She took his blimpy paw and pulled him over to a door the opposite side of the cafe. Despite now having hooves and his legs being the size of rubbery tree trunks, walking proved no problem. Coco pulled a key out of her apron and unlocked the Employees Only room. The walls were painted a homey brown. A massive TV was mounted on the wall with a large, soft-looking couch facing it. Behind that were both a microwave and a small fridge. Though it was a breakroom, it felt much more like Coco’s own, personal living room.
Coco quickly took a seat on the couch, patting the open space next to her. Harvey followed suit and sat down next to her. “So…” Coco sidled up right next to him, her squeaky shoulder rubbing against his, making him blush once more. “First time?”
“You could tell that easily?” He gave a shy smile.
“Yeah, not too hard to see. Most first timers got the same reaction ya did. Shocked and speechless.” She crossed her arms, a soft squeak emanating as rubber brushed against it. “Well? Whadya think?”
“It was… bizarre.” Harvey blushed and looked around. His gaze fell upon a full-length mirror, where he was finally able to see just how similar his new balloonie cow body was to that of Coco’s. “I mean, it felt really good, but it was still just so strange. Especially with… this.” He looked down at the udders sticking out beneath his very tight hoodie.
“Mm, I getcha.” Coco nodded understandingly. “Still, now that ya dunnit, would ya do it again?” She stared at him with an expectant look in her eyes.
“Absolutely!” Harvey replied enthusiastically without even a moment of hesitation.
“Now that’s what I like to hear!” Coco laughed heartily. “Now, we’ve got a few hours ‘fore ya turn back. If ya like, I can grab an air tank and show ya the best part of bein’ a balloonie!”
This time, Harvey hesitated. “Um, while that does sound interesting, I’m… still a little nervous about it. Transforming into a balloonie cow like this is just… a lot to take in, I guess. But next time I come, could we maybe try it?”
“As long as ya promise there’s a next time!”
“There will be, I promise.” He returned her warm smile. “But for now, would you mind if we just watched a little TV… on the couch together?” He still sounded a little nervous, but was immediately pulled closer to her. Coco wrapped her arm around his shoulder and held him tight.
“If yer lookin’ to cuddle, ya don’t even need to ask!” Harvey started to feel much calmer as the TV flickered on. They spent the next few hours snuggled comfortably together on the couch, just watching some light TV and talking. For a while, his mind was completely rid of the stress from earlier.
As she said, four hours of relaxation later, Harvey started to turn back to a human. His skin went back to its original pasty beige. His hands returned to five digits and his hooves transformed back into feet. As he was no longer full of air, his bloated belly shrunk back down to its original size, and the udder completely vanished. His head quickly regained its original shape; the muzzle turned back to a normal nose, ears shrank until they were hidden behind his hair, and the horns completely vanished. He was completely back to his human self.
The same couldn’t be said for his clothes. Harvey’s pants were in tattered shreds, destroyed by his ballooned hips. Coco gave him a spare robe to at least keep him covered until he got home. Thankfully, it was already dark out and he lived close by, so no one would really be able to bother him about it. Before leaving, Harvey grabbed his wallet and phone from the remains of his pants and handed Coco a $50 bill, telling her to keep the change.
“Oh hun, y’know the drink was only $5.”
“I know, but that’s the absolute least I can do for everything you did for me today.”
Smiling widely, Coco gave him a very tight hug, which he graciously returned. The door opened, the bell rang, and Harvey left with a satisfied smile. Coco crossed her arms, shut her eyes gently, and smiled. “Another satisfied regular.”
