Every new invention has to go through a testing phase before it can be declared usable to the freedom fighters. Nicole would occasionally ask for volunteers among the group in order to write the necessary safety protocol while testing the device on a test subject. Even before knowing what the strange-looking raygun was intended for, the blue speedster himself volunteered to help out Nicole with the testing procedure. The subject would have to be undressed for these types of tests but Sonic didn't mind too much standing barefoot on the cold chamber floor. "Sonic, I assume you want to know the purpose of this new invention before we start testing it. Well, it's a mass-reduction apparatus or to put it into layman terms, a 'shrink ray' as you would call it." the female lynx explained while tilting the raygun in front of the blue hedgehog. In a mere second, the device was ripped off her hands and held tightly by the supposed test subject himself. "Woah, so this thing can actually shrink people? How small do they get? Are we gonna shrink Eggman by any chance?" the speedy boy bombarded her with questions enthusiastically. Sonic was like a child in front of a candy store, he definitely took a high interest in this invention.

"Ehm… well, we haven't tested it on any biological lifeforms yet. That's what we're here for." she replied in an overwhelmed manner as the curious hero poked her with pure euphoria. With a sudden jump backward the swift hedgehog aimed it directly at her with a boyish giggle, "Let's give it a try then, shall we?". Not wanting to wait much further he briefly held down the trigger, shooting the confused feline with a bright green beam. Nicole didn't react in time and was completely caught off guard by the youngster's unforeseen action. "SONIC! STOP!" the dazzled girl shouted but it was too late, the shrinking began to take effect. By the time she ran up to the blue teen, she was already reduced down to Sonic's upper legs. Like a teasing big brother with a TV remote, Sonic held the shrink ray further up into the air as the panicking lynx attempted to grab it. Her body kept shrinking all while the taller hedgehog practically made her jump for the shrink ray. "You're so small." taunted the blue bully as Nicole merely stood up to his knees. Just a few seconds and she was already eye level with Sonic's ankles. The mischief speedster wasn't fully satisfied with the results however, he wanted to milk it a bit more. A sinister grin washed over his face as he aimed for the now doll-sized girl.
