This hefty figure comes from a Sunday strip reprint, which is why I splurged and put in two patches of shading. They represent the shading that Walt Kelly used in the original. Barnstable Bear was mostly a Sunday-strips character, for whatever reason; possibly he was easier to fit in the strips with more space. This is from a strip in which Congersman Frog hired Barnstable, as part of putting up a nature preserve in the Swamp, to post signs reading Do Not Feed The Bears. Discovering what the signs said left Barnstable quite cross.

I think I really nailed Barnstable's closed eyes. And eyelids. Even his mouth. This might, on technique, be the best face I've done in this string of pictures.
