In the drekir tribal culture of the Fisherdrakes, the Shiner is a huge part of their culture.
Shiners are outfits made from fish scales that a drek has caught, they are made from scaling a fish and sewing those scales to a simple woven fabric. Shiners are a purely decorative aspect of fisherdrake clothing and serves little practical purpose. The Shiner gets it's name from how the fish scales usually glint in the firelight of day to day life and during the similarly named shiny dance.
Religiously they believe that it allows them to show the gods in their religion (the starscales) that they are doing their job of eating fish well enough. They're also a beauty thing, as fisherdrakes like to use their shiners to make themselves look a bit nicer for their fellow villagers.
Generally a shiner is the sorta thing a drek wears day in and day out, however due to the obvious fact that a shiner offers no protection from the colder winters that hit the north michigan area, or keep away the rain, snow, etc. Drekir of the fisherdrake tribes tend to wear more practical clothing in addition to their shiners in the day to day grind. This more practical clothing tends to be less flashy, mostly grass fiber and bark made cloaks. During a shiny dance the drekir will usually try to disregard the weather is possible, simply making big fires to keep safely warm around. But in the daily grind if the weather doesn't permit wearing only the shiner, they will be wearing more practical clothing on top of it.
