One thing I never could resist was the urge to go poking around in old drawers, bookcases and whatnot.

Another lovely shot. Great use of (muted) color, and you can all but feel the dirt and grit.

I wonder that myself; things are removed over time, by workers, other explorers, etc. Some things are damaged by water and exposure. Unfortunately, we'll never know.

Interesting how photography like that can transform a scene too. Staged like that, it not only looks like drawers...but perhaps oddly shaped steps...or even the vast geometrically carved steps of a lost civilization...still littered with the remains of its demise.

Mainly saw that last bit in the uppermost "drawer" next to the two long round objects...the small lump looks somewhat like a cannon.
