Update 3/13/21: Grammar and small fixes.
‘Man, who knew that moving sucked so much.’ Miss through as she brought in the final box through the doorway. She set the box beside several other boxes in the barren room and looked around. The furnishings would be coming in soon but until then, the barren living room would remain that way. The apartment was perfect for her, two bedrooms, one and a half bath, no roommates to argue with, no parents breathing down her back, and all of it with a nice view casting a sunset over the city. All of it to herself, all of it bittersweet.
Miss sighed as she walked across the living room over to the small patio that showed a beautiful overlook of the city. The view was enhanced by just how many floors she was up, 32 floors, the tippy-top of the building. Miss lightly kicked the ground, the audible scruff of her sneakers was the only thing that replied. Having a nice chair out here enjoying the view would be nice in later months but for now, Miss made her way back inside. The whole apartment was a nice size for a one-person apartment in the city. It wasn’t overly huge or anything but, they were able to get it at a great price. Miss’s brother joked that someone probably died there for such a great price but she ignored him, he always was a bit of an ass.
Making her way into the alley kitchen, Miss looked across the small kitchen and grabbed a box of Chinese food. She pulled herself up and sat on the counter while she began to nibble on the food. ‘Moving sucks.” Miss mumbled between bites. Not only did she miss her family and friends, but she also missed her hometown already on day one. Was moving a mistake? Would staying with your parents be a mistake? Sure she wanted to go out and live her dreams but that would require breaking out of her comforts. It would require her to push through and be strong. Miss sighed as she set down the food, not feeling hungry anymore. She set the leftovers in the fridge and continued exploring her new den.
The hallway and the bathroom held no photos, no holes from nails, and was an empty canvas for Miss. The only character she was able to get out of anything was a small rock put on the rim of the sink in the half bath. The guest room also was barren as the rest of the house, only sporting a small window out onto another view of the city from the opposite of the patio. Finally, there was the master bedroom, her bedroom. She opened the door only to a single mattress, moved in earlier with the help of the movers. Miss sighed, hoping for something magical to have happened but nope, reality decided to say not today. The master bath also was the same story as the rest of the house. Finally, there was the master closet. Just like everything in the house, it was empty. Miss sighed as she entered the closet. It was nice and big plus she could at least walk into it unlike her last closet, she just hoped for something interesting.
She noticed in the back of the closet, there was another smaller closet. It was probably the water heater but she should at least go check it out. When she opened the door, she did not expect what she found. Yes, it was the room where the water heater was but the previous tenant also used it as a closet extension. A closet extension they forgot about. There were three dresses and three more semi-casual outfits all hanging together on a small rack in the small area that the room had. There also was a small jewelry box and lying on top of the box was a nice gold and ruby necklace.
Miss was elated. Sure, she should probably contact the manager of the building and stuff and try to get it back to the owners but that can wait. Hell, her new house had no signs of use or anything and she wanted something like a backstory. Besides not explicit, you could tell a lot about a person with a close look. The clothes were a bit bigger than her size, someone with a bigger chest at least, helping strike up an imaginary character. The clothes were all pretty well made with nice fabric, maybe that person was a bit lavish on spending their money on clothes but didn’t want to go all over the top. There were a lot of cat hairs on the clothes revealing that they at least had one or two cats. The jewelry wasn’t lavish either, mainly consisting of gold bands, earrings, and a few bracelets. The true prize was the necklace.
It was a nice necklace with a ruby gemstone in the middle and gold highlights around it. It wasn’t something Miss thought was super expensive but not cheap, as she got a closer look, she noticed a small note underneath the necklace. She carefully picked up the necklace and began to read the note aloud. “If you are reading this, this means that you found my little gift, it's some of my old stuff so you can keep it. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy this place and clothes as much as I did.”
Miss looked back at the clothes and jewelry with a small happy smile. It was an unexpected gift but a nice one. She wouldn’t want this stuff to go to waste so she would keep them and move them later. She brought up her other hand still holding the necklace. “Welp,” Miss said as she walked back into the main closet “I guess it would be rude not to wear it.”
It wasn’t hard to put on the necklace and with a little walk over to the restroom, Miss was able to see just how nice it was under better light. There were some tiny engravings and etches inside the gold and the ruby was a beautiful cut. If the previous owner just left it here as a gift, they must have had some serious money. Miss leaned back after getting a closer look in the mirror and noticed that something was off. As she looked closer, the area around her eyes seemed a more red or pinkish color. Was she allergic to something in that room? Maybe the cat hair? As she was theorizing, her ears felt like they just submerged into water. Miss quickly caught herself on the sink as she rode the wave of discomfort and loss of balance. Soon, however, the feeling faded and she soon readjusted herself. As she looked into the mirror, it looked like the pink had spread out further around her eyes and some parts began to look purple? Oh, and there was a pair of fuzzy cat ears resting on top of her head.
“What the hell!” Miss said as her hand shot up to the top of her head and slowly touched her ear. Yep, it was real and yes she could hear from them. Her hand lowered quickly down only to find out that her hand had also been affected. Her slim hand had now been transformed into a paw covered in purple fur with cream-colored pads. A quick look back up to the mirror had confirmed that it had started to spread down from the top of her head changing her hair purple. A shiver shot down her spine as she felt an offshoot head down the back of her head and her spine. Her hair had been completely changed to purple and had begun to crawl down the sides of her head. Cream fur began to sprout out along her mouth while pink fur began to highlight her eyes. Miss squinched her face as her nose began to shorten and form into a small triangle-shaped nose. The fur had quickly grown across her chest, slightly bringing more volume to her chest. Her legs began to collapse under her so she once again grabbed the sink and held it for dear life. The legs began to slightly slim down as legs began to change her legs bones and structure. Her shoes had fallen off and socks shared the same fate revealing her new legs. Her paws flexed as small claws popped out from the paw as Miss was able to support herself on the sink. Miss let out a yelp as a tail sprang out from her spine and began to whip around.
Miss pushed herself up and was able to support herself up on her new legs. She didn’t believe it, what happened? Miss rubbed her face as she looked into the mirror. She didn’t expect to become a Purrlion, to be frank. She fixed her sweatshirt and brushed herself off. “Well, this is a hell of a surprise gift,” Miss said as she checked herself and looked back at the clothes left behind. They looked like they actually might fit now. They even had little holes to stick her tail through. “Well then,” Miss said, “I may as well try one on.” She made her way into the closet and came back on with a set of clothes that looked like a sleepwear. She made her way from her room towards the patio where the sunset glow was almost completed. She smiled. She had made the right choice.
