Ostriches (ダチョウ Dachō?) are a species of villager in the Animal Crossing series. They are a subspecies of birds, but have smaller heads and longer necks than birds.

In this case, Velvet identifies mostly as ostrich, though their headgear might be more like that of one of the peacock types. Right now, their gender is more or less unknown - they are less flamboyant than a male peacock, but far brighter than a female ostrich. Velvet likes to spend their off time digging up fossils to show Blathers, but while Blathers is formally polite, Velvet has been unable to tempt them into any other attention.
