The Lost World: Jurassic Park - The Stegosaurus
"Oh, yeah. Ooh! Aah! That's how it always starts, but then later there's running and then... screaming."
On this day 23 years ago, The Lost World: Jurassic Park was released in theaters on Memorial Day as the first official sequel to the Jurassic Park franchise. It faced heavy scrutiny in its initial debut but has garnered adoration from fans in recent years. It features everyone's favorite chaotician Ian Malcolm, awesome scenes with dinosaurs, and tense action sequences.
I really love the film myself, so, in order to pay tribute, I decided to recreate my favorite shot from the film using G-mod. The stegosaurus is one of, if not, my favorite dinosaurs to have ever existed. It's such a beautiful animal, and I love how they are the first dinosaur encounter on the island by the main characters. I especially love Eddie Carr's reaction of feeling small but also in awe by the herbivores' large presences. I would give anything to be in there position and witness a stegosaurus in its natural environment just wandering around, minding its own business.
I did my best to recreate the scene. There were no maps that came close to what I was looking for, so I used a map that was completely flat and had a river that ran straight through it. The river was very deep so I tried to make it look shallow by adding rocks just under the water's surface and patches of grass poking out above water. Then, I added in all the trees to make it look like a thorough forest, and, of course, I added in all the dinosaurs and humans, too. It's sad that there is not a single model of a Jurassic Park character in the workshop, so I didn't even bother trying to find look-alikes. If anything, these are just three mercenaries who found themselves in the same situation.
