This one is for the sheer "cute" value!
This is Shaman and Jasmine, who are brother and sister and share the cage together. Like any siblings, they have their moments of bickering and arguing, and others of just being with one another in harmony and tender moments.
Shaman is the one on the bottom, which should be obvious from his much larger size. On average, the males of any given species of cat range from 30-50% larger than the females, and in this picture it's fairly evident that Shaman's very close to that 50% mark. In terms of weight, he's about 150lbs to her probably 80lbs, sopping wet. So from a more pure, scientific premise, this picture demonstrates the gender, size-differential quite well.
My only negative comment about the pic is the dern chain-link in the background, but oh well. Can't do anything about it. I hope you enjoy the picture anyway.
This picture was taken 24-Jun-03. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and the EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens. The original was taken at full frame of 3072x2048x24b, ISO eqv 400, 1/125 shutter, f/5.6. This image was shrunken down for space conservation.
Disclaimer: I hate to have to put this on here, but the pic is copyright me. Please do not distribute, copy, alter, etc, without my permission. Having said all that, feel free to download and use it for your own inspiration.

There are about fifteen pix in this "series". In one of them, Shaman had rolled back a little, and has a big (huge) paw around Jasmine and is licking her. Her face is just...gone. You /really/ notice the size difference between her and her brother then.
In another one, he's licking the side of her neck, and she has the most comical, indignant expression on her face. I might post that one later on. There's so many that I'm looking at to put up.

Well, point well taken and true. Shaman can indeed play rather rough when he gets the mind to, not to mention his size is somewhat intimidating, and Jasmine is the classic love-biter. But they are still wonderful animals to work with, even with the little...hazzards. Par for the course, I say. :)
All in good time, M'Lady! Look around, and I think you'll find that there are many, private wildlife facilities that are closer than you might think.
And while it's not the same, I have certainly found much inspiration by going to a local zoo and just gazing for a while. Maybe I can't touch, but gazing still lets you "feel" the same sheer and awesome wonder.
As was said by a much wiser one than I: If the mind can conceive, it can achieve! My take on that: if you can dream it, then you can find a way to make the dream come true!
