Here's another one for the artist crowd! Specifically, this is for Lady Balaa (who I think might have a thing for noses!) :)
This is another pic of Drifter, who is, in the case, obviously sleeping in one of those cat-nap things. I still can't fathom how any creature could find that upsidedown, contorted, wadded-up kind of posture comfortable, but I guess that's just part of the magic of a cat.
The photo really isn't one that has much aesthetic or emotion-evoking value, but I like it because it's the totally up-close-and-personal shot where you can actually see a lot of the "inner workings" of a cat face. Of course, it's Drifter's face, so I'd love it even if he was open-mawed and snarling (not that he's ever snarled in his life).
In this pic there's a lot to see. There's the little swirls in the nostrils, the way all the different pallets of fur come together so perfectly with the leathery nose, the freckles on his dark-colored nose, how the upper canines touch naturally into the soft skin of the lower jaw, how the soft parts of the mouth ("lips", if you’ll forgive the use of an entirely "human" word) all come together in a perfect fit, and even how gravity lets the whiskers/cheeks fall just a little to expose the upper canines for view (the Drifter Sabre Kitty!). I think it's all neat, but I'm weird, and find it entertaining to walk a cwazee leopard around the yard. :)
This picture was taken 27-Jun-03. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and the EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens. The original was taken at full frame of 3072x2048x24b, ISO eqv 400, 1/250 shutter, f/5.6. This image was rotated and then shrunken down for space conservation.

I have two real challenges with Drifter: he is a total attention sponge, so whenever I'm around, it's really hard to get pictures of him, as he's usually trying to convince me that nothing is more important than my paying attention to him, and the second part of that, he's never still long enough to get any "good" pix.
In this case, it was a lazy day, and I'd already fulfilled the attention quota for the moment, and so he could just relax a bit and let me scratch the chest a bit, which always creates a magnetic pull on his eyelids and forces them to close. :) I just happen to have my camera handy (which I always endeavor to do).
I always so enjoy the moments of calm and serentiy with Drifter, as they are so few and far between.

OMG! One of my favorites! That's a great picture and a great refrence picture. I hope he's having lots of great dreams. Also I've found that some of the weirdest positions to sleep in are sometimes some of the best. I've even had the experience of sleeping in some hay with goats! LOL! :)
Truth be told, I remember fondly sleeping with Shasta, my very first cougar of (gasp!) 25-years ago.
He was such an ADHD lunatic during the day, that by the time night came, he went out like a light. It was fun as he was a terminal snuggler, but it was bad as he was 200-lbs, and a blanket of that weight makes it hard to breathe when it's laying on your chest, and as cats are hotter in core body temp than humans, it was a very warm blanket, which could be uncomfortable. Did I mention he was a terminal snuggler? :) That meant you had a blanket whether you wanted it or not.

Indeed, it was a grand experience! I have never slept so soundly, before or since.
There's another aspect that played greatly into things: Shasta and I were friend, but he was very much my guardian, and I mean that in the literal sense. So there was a real feeling of "security" that I had sleeping with him.
In psychological terms, when the mind is at ease and feels safe, then sleep comes most easily.

Indeed, I have the "original" image. The pix essentially come off the camera as-is (I don't ever do any kind of editing or "photoshopping"!) and get sorted and then archived.
If your like, send me a note (so it's not in the public forum) with an email addy (if you're comfortable with me having it) and I'll send you the un-shrunk image.
Glad you like the pic!

Drifter likes kisses! In fact, he is the cause of a new syndrome that I've come to call "tongue burn".
Drifter loves to nuzzle my hands. And once he's done that for a bit (in reality, he's probably getting my hands all slathered with his own scent to get righ of any other scents that I might be carrying) and then starts licking my hands and wrists. Were not talking the gently licks either. I'm talking the wet, 20-grit sandpaper, kind of licks that take the skin off! It feels exactly like a heat burn. It's not that he does it on putpose, but he likes to lick me. I seem to be the only he does that to. Of course, we're mery much buddies, as I raised him from a little one from the time he still had spots, so that has a lot to do with it.

I ADORE this shot! Everything about it, I would say it is a really artistic shot in many ways and all the detail is MORE than helpful. What a face ;).
Thank you sir Mick for indulging my ever growing cat addiction. Through your pictures I feel as though I can walk beside your kids, though obviously I've never been so lucky in reality..yet ;)!

Sir Mark: Drifter does indeed have a deviant streak a mile wide, and given the opportunity, will push your buttons with all the subtlety of...well...a cat. So the word "evil" has more than a little significance. :)
But also, it's a fascinating study as to what people can see at first glance. In truth, this pic is hard to tell what it really it, as it's not really what the mind /expects/ to see, so it interprets the image in the best fasion that it can. Sometimed, it's a little off, but there can still be a lot of humor to be found in what it comes up with. If you want a real fascinating mind game, try to think about and identify what thoughts you might have been having both before, and directly after viewing the thumbnail. :)

This pic, all by itself has been great, for a bunch of different reasons.
It all goes to prove that everyone indeed sees their own light, as is the way it should be for many things.
Duck, Walrus, upsidedown cat, whatever: as long as the image inspires or even makes the synapses fire just a little, then it's been a great cause to have placed it up. Drifter would be so proud!

I need to post some side views, but from your pic i have a few new ideas about how to do some stuff. Can't wait till i'm finished with school and can concentrate on my art projects more.

Heh, well the pose kinda reminded me of one of our own cats, a little ball of ginger fluff called Jerry, who's got a set of snagglefangs himself, which can usually be seen if he falls asleep upside down - rather like the relaxed cougar in this shot XD
Your photos are so awesome ^^

I've done the cougar and tiger hugs. It's pretty unreal how strong they are, so I know exactly what you mean.
The first tiger I ever worked with was quite affectionate, and he had to have his hugs regularly. If you didn't give him what he wanted, then he'd just mug you and get it anyway. :) Big Bengal monster. Best tiger I've ever had the honor of working with.
