I awakened early again. Not wanting to rouse the others, I made my way outside to partake in what was becoming a common form of relaxation for me: looking out over the taiga to the tundra beyond, at the aurora above the horizon, at the vastness that had—from events still beyond our wildest imaginings—become our kingdom to rule. I stood on the keep's balcony as a thirteen-foot colossus accountable for the well-being of the land before me and its people, but in that moment, looking out over the sights below and thinking about what I and my companions had become, the weight of that responsibility felt like nothing. I felt only wonder and pride.
