When The Artist Asks The Commissioner #2

Metal does not bend. Or twist. Soooo. How do the hips of Philomela work?
I got asked this question yesterday by the
~Artemius~ since this time i have a whole day to work on it as opposed to about half an hour to come up with an answer...
...I did something that actually makes sense.
And a proper answer where i was highly dissatisfied with the previous one i gave...
Obviously this too can be improved... and i got friends telling me that if i keep improving my answers... i'm going to end up actually building her... buuut... eh.
Also: in case somebody is wondering that bevel gear joint is what should have been in place of the omni-joint in the shoulder seen here https://www.furaffinity.net/view/34081729/ but we went with the omnijoint because it's easier to draw.

π
Yes this is the difference you get between an answer given in about half an hour as seen here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/33531467/And a proper answer where i was highly dissatisfied with the previous one i gave...

i just hate when i give answer that the more i think about it the more they show as wrong and unserviceable. Also: in case somebody is wondering that bevel gear joint is what should have been in place of the omni-joint in the shoulder seen here https://www.furaffinity.net/view/34081729/ but we went with the omnijoint because it's easier to draw.

i hope the above is understandable, i "drew" it thinking i would have to explain it. Mostly it took me about 4 hours to come up with the solution and 4 hours to make ultra quick and dirty renders. π
[spoiler: the green part is impossible, which is why it's missing πππ]

It'll never work right and look natural from all angles because meat is squishy AND organic movement is actuated by pulling tendons, not rotational torque on the skeletal joints themselves.
This is why I just draw my robots "pretty" and don't strain my brain trying to design them so they would work.
Actually it might be a feasible approach to have some movement done by cable. You could have the pulleys located where there's room in the body, and run lengths of "airplane cable" through flexible conduit to the appropriate anchor point.

The green axis will only work if there is a twin bevel gear joint like it gets shown there in series turned 90 degrees from each other... so that it has all three degrees of freedom, and an omnijoint, to reposition it back in the central axis.

But then it gets..... REALLY complicated and the chances of shearing become incredibly high.
Unless one implements a clutch as you said.
Buuut... if i start thinking on how to solve each and every problem... i'm really going to build her. π
So i prefer to keep a visual reminder of the impossibility.
Because, i mean, at one point... she does not have the space inside to put a difference engine, an analytical one is way out of the picture, and much less an actual thinking brain.
So... you see... even wanting to build an automaton that can move... that's all she would do: "be able to move".
Some dreams are best left like that.
