This is Pogo's brother-in-law Beowulf, who didn't grow very tall. He grew long instead, with all that growth going into his tail. I'd hoped for a nice simple character to draw today and I have, at least, spent a lot of time learning how to draw that Walt Kelly opossum nose. I really like his long, long tail, though.

I decided to make his paw and his shirt a chance to learn something about hatching, cross- and otherwise. This I think worked. I used the outline layer to draw a shape for the extent of the hatching. On the hatching layer I used the width of my (soft rubber-sphere) stylus to judge where to start the next line over. This did fairly well at getting lines that are almost but not perfectly uniform in spacing, and that start and end somewhere near their neighbors'. The thick lines run over one another worked well for the top hat and the pants, too.
