Finally got my Tillinghast Resonator up and running again, and LO, what do my wondering eyes behold? Semi-abstract beasties with teeth! (The "Tillinghast Resonator" is a fictional device from an HP Lovecraft short story called "From Beyond". The Resonator stimulates parts of the brain that are ordinarily dormant, allowing a person to see all the floating inter-dimensional weirdness and creatures that surround them. As is typical of an HPL story, the narrator loses his cool, destroys the resonator, and the rest of us are left to wonder what it would be like to experience such a marvelous thing...)
I wanted primarily to build up on my "Dragons of the Outer Spheres" concept that I've been fiddling with for nearly twenty years. This newest addition to the series hearkens back to the very first one, Uranean Man o' War, from 2002.
I accomplished this project with watercolor over an ink drawing, and Prismacolor pencils over the watercolor. Not much is left of the original watercolor underpainting, as I needed to do quite a bit of color adjustment to get the floating bits and bobs to show up clearly. I also needed some additional color balancing (MOAR VIOLET!!!1!), so there's only a little bit of the original watercolor texture that remains.
The original art is 12 x 23.5 inches, and will be matted to 18 x 30, give or take. I'll have to get framing bits for it eventually, but I will have it ready to show in the 2021 convention season.
