Redwinged Blackbird spreading it's wings perched atop some loose brush. Another test of the 70-210 lens. Because of the smooth Bokeh, similar to the last shot, the bird and the branches are sharp and in focus but the background is a creamy distorted haze.
Also a cool shot because you can see the details in the feathers and wings. Black is always a hard thing to photograph. Many of my photos of the blackbird were a non-detailed black blob with a little red patch. Not this one, it turned out great.

What ISO are you running at? This was taken at ISO 200 or the "sweet spot" of the ISO for the camera. ISO 200 is the lowest hardware ISO for the camera, 100 is software based.
As I said, I got real lucky with this shot. Most of my other pictures of the blackbird are un-detailed black blobs. Pure black is always hard to photograph with any amount of detail, as is white IE snow. Black does show noise more then any other correction, you are correct there. Even at ISO 400 you start seeing it. Lower your ISO if you can on a black subject or use a flash. The more consistent the lighting the less noise you'll pull off.
