I'm actually kinda surprised I never uploaded this. Guess that's what happens when you get lazy. xD
This was an idea that I had... I think a year or two ago now. A while back another artist was doing pokemorph commissions, so I decided to get one done of Skal as my fave pokemon Greninja, but decided to give him the Alohlan twist (since Sun and Moon had just come out at that time) and turn him into a Fire/Dark type instead of Water/Dark. Ended up eventually doing some talking with another friend of mine, Overgrownlizards and he mentioned that he had a sort of Charizard type form, so ofc we had to do a pokemon battle piece, so we commissioned another friend to do the piece!
Thanks again for working on this with us Kato, and sorry for waiting so long to upload it. xD

You know, I think that's one of the things that I appreciate most about this arc, is that it really fleshes out the personality of greninja as more than "just a pokemon". It shows that catching a pokemon with a pokeball doesnt make them a "slave", because greninja will literally just leave its trainer if it doesnt think its worthy. That's how Ash got his as a Froakie. It left its previous trainer and came to Ash instead.
Yea, Ash gets a lot of flak for not being a very intelligent trainer, but the kid's got a lot of heart, and in the anime we've seen many times that typing isnt everything like it is in the games, and pokemon can win battles even when at a type disadvantage. Ash's greninja recognized that he was capable of great things, and chose him for that, which I think is really cool and fleshes out pokemon in general as being sentient, thinking creatures.
