Wow, that one slept on my hard drive for .... more than a year at least.
i do remember that the artist had personnal trouble back then. maybe i should contact him?
Anyway, this is Doppelganger, the 4th member of team Marauders. (they all have predetermined positions)
as a doppelganger, hes a shapeshifter that can turn his body into various monster parts.
His personal gimmick is that he can acquire monster Genes (name pending since the word "Gene" isn't supposed to exist in that world yet, they're in the 1400s) which will end up being an item you, the player, acquire in battle or find in chest or in the field or in alchemy and magic shops. there would be an option to use a skill of Cortez to drain the monster and gain the gene.
This "Gene" item is similar yet different from Golem's "Ore" except this one offers a template of the monster its been taken from and from which cortez can transform into. that way, you can mix-and-match the various body parts according to the parts different stats.
a strong arm there, a good head here, though body that way, etc. a true mix-and-match critter.
Of course, there will be a limit to it, maybe Mass or maybe more something else entirely to denote the power of the body part. this limit will be increased by level so the higher level, the higher quality of body parts you morph into.
At first, doppelganger, would be limited in anatomy (no gigantic arms with tiny torso) or maybe weight or something. A limit on what this doppelganger can turn into.
Breaking this limit happens in his personnal story arc. This quest would involve finding specific monster templates, which his First Treasure and preferate form, the Shadow Gene, is part of. This quest involve doppelganger finding out about the Shadow Masters, creatures living in the Shadow plane and beings of unlimited shapeshifting while doppelgangers are limited by mass (based on Dungeon and Dragons Malaugrym). This personnal quest would bring the player to the shadow plane where cortez would like the place, meet the resident shadow masters and finish the quest where he ends up turning into a Shadow master.
he will literally change specie.
He'll also find his future wife there
-when affected by an anti-magic field, he turn into his basic, powerless, doppelganger form. i dunno if it still should happen when he becomes a Shadow Master since unlike doppelgangers, they DON'T have base forms. i think a funnier option would be that he lose control of his shapeshifting and turn into a random static object like a mushroom, the non-moving kind.
-he has the highest base HP of all characters, breaking the 9999 HP limit without having to dedicate a skill to it, freeing one slot.
-hes a guy, so he can only turn into the male version of monsters, if that has any importance. if a monsters is vastly different between female and male (at least 1 or 2 monsters will denote that difference, with at least 1 being aquatic to be based on deep sea anglerfish) and doppelganger take the monster Gene from the female, he will turn into the male. Heck, to better show this, only the female monster would be able to drop the Gene
this art show his preferate, default form looking in a mirror that reflect his base doppelganger form. note the extra long arms of the doppelganger
on a side note, hes not supposed to have any ass, hes just a torso on a strand of goo
Hes Multiclassed warrior/mage and his nature as shapeshifter allows him to not have a huge XP increase due to multiclass AND he can attack twice in one turn : one magic, one physical. He can literally do two things at the same time instead of human's habit of jumping from one to the other.
