“The village was one of the most seedy places he had ever seen.
Rotten houses, half destroyed and decaying, a stench of mud and sewage that stagnated to make vomit with the ancient streets and the sunken stone, almost completely covered, making the brown slime that went to cover the boots emerge again.
Not even the church was saved. Broken windows, the moss that grew on the walls and the dull ivy, entered and left the walls. As much as Yuki didn't think, that sight made her face twist. Not even that sacred place was saved in all that decay.
The caretaker himself when he introduced himself, walking hurriedly towards them, intimidated them at the mere sight. It looked like a ruin on two legs, very thin and tall, a hundred years old and yet according to the young scion he was just thirty. As soon as he smiled, Yuki's eyes widened. Yellow and blackened teeth, some missing or visibly decayed. It could be mistaken for a monster, even his robes, although of fine workmanship, had lost their purple color, showing themselves dirty with mud and dirt, as if they had not been washed for some time.
Entering the village, heading for the tavern, they hoped that things would improve. Not even the tavern where they would stay was worthily presented, as far as they knew it could collapse at any moment, so much so that they decided to request asylum from the vendors in the center of the village, who lived in their closed carriages. They were certainly not comfortable but they knew they could wake up the next day while still alive. The only place that mirrored the village was the cemetery, untreated with weeds and gravestones on the ground or loose.
The thought of dying and being buried in that place made her shiver and terrify.
If it weren't for the substantial wages and the ability to keep everything they would find during the patrols, they would have run away as soon as they set foot on the ground. "
