You might think that a shiny Charizard would tend to have a disposition for being cocky and arrogant. As far as Axel goes... well, that's kinda true. After all, the 7'9" 'zard's declaring himself the "Undisputed King of Awesome" at the start of his junior year is hardly an act of modesty, even if he's proven himself to have the battle skills to back up that claim.

Despite all his bragging though, he's not quite the self-centered jackass that the first impression might give. Axel has always believed in treating others as they treat him, so folks who act cool around him will get a toned down fellow who tends to be more well-mannered and helpful than usual. By contrast, those who try to act like they're better than him will get a guy that acts like he's going to eat them as soon as no one's looking.

Further throwing off the unintentional bad guy image are some of the things Axel does away from school, like spending his weekends helping out around his grandparents' pet shop downtown. He also has a pet Pachirisu he named Fuzzbomber that's usually accompanying the 'zard wherever he's allowed to bring him. Not surprisingly, Axel has a lot of respect for anyone who takes good care of their pets.
