Surprise gift for
un-satisfied who is a huge Verg fan. :3
This started as an image transfer on super sculpey, I outlined a shot of him from his character sheet with prisma pencil, placed it on the sculpey prisma side down and burnished the back, leaving a vague outline on the clay. I used this as a guide and cut carefully with clay tools over the lines, cutting in and removing clay in low areas, making some areas higher than others, building up the cheeks, etc. This was only really my second time working subtractively - I made a stone sculpture once with a dremel, but that's it. It's an interesting technique.
I am extremely happy with how the metal texture came out on the armor. The armor is the same silver as the earrings, just washed over with a really watery dose of acrylics and then sopped up with a kleenex, leaving gradually more paint in the deep cuts and leaving irregular aged-looking splotches elsewhere.
Before he was shipped out he was covered in varnish and sculpey glaze to protect the paint, but I didn't have enough time to take a photo and the ones with glaze usually don't come out well anyways due to shine.
Yay Verg! He doesn't get enough love. <3
